In the second episode of Season 3, “The White Lotus” delivered yet another unexpected twist – introducing an Academy Award-winning actor for a vocal appearance.
Indeed, it was Ke Huy Quan, the actor known for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” who was speaking during that frantic telephone conversation.
To begin the new season, character Timothy Ratliff (played by Jason Isaacs) receives queries from reporters regarding suspicious financial dealings from his past. In response, he reaches out to his ex-business partner via voicemail. In the subsequent episode, it’s Quan who eventually returns Timothy’s call, although his appearance in the episode is not explicitly acknowledged in the credits or on IMDb.
“Why’s The Wall Street Journal calling me, Kenny?” Timothy asks his old pal.
Kenny replies anxiously, “I’m not interested in your tale right now. Just now, twenty officers stormed my workplace! This is a disaster. I give up.
As Kenny grows increasingly anxious over the prospect of serving time in prison, Timothy begins to seem remorseful, saying, “You promised me this wouldn’t occur. You flat-out assured me it wouldn’t happen.
Kenny responds, expressing surprise that a colleague he suspected of being a whistleblower would leak information about him to both the media and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He describes the situation as grim, stating that the federal authorities have taken control of his assets, emails, and documents.
Kenny also reveals he’s calling on a burner phone and tells Timothy he is definitely implicated.
Remember, this was a favor for you, right?” Timothy exclaims. “I never wanted to be involved! It was entirely your doing, and now I find myself ensnared in a money laundering bribery scandal. All I stand to gain is a paltry $10 million from your ill-conceived plan!
After that, Timothy becomes quite stern: “Swear by heaven itself, Kenny, if you betray me in this matter, I promise I’ll end your life. I’m dead serious, I will take it upon myself to eliminate you.
It might be more comfortable for you to know that Kenny is far away. However, in a rather unsettling manner, he replies, “I might as well end my life,” before Timothy ends the call.
Previously, Mike White, the creator of “The White Lotus,” has often enlisted a well-known friend to lend their voice for minor roles in his series. In Season 2, Laura Dern can be heard over the phone as the separated spouse of Michael Imperioli’s character, Dominic.
