Asteria, a film and animation studio specializing in generative AI technology, established late last year by filmmaker and businessperson Bryn Mooser, is expanding its workforce with the recruitment of VFX specialist Benjamin Lock. His role will focus on overseeing the creation of AI-powered workflows within the company and providing guidance on developing Asteria’s unique AI model.

Lock boasts over two decades of expertise in Visual Effects (VFX) and animation, having worked with companies such as Framestore, Aardman, and Lucasfilm/ILM. Asteria specializes in creating both fiction and nonfiction films and TV shows using advanced AI technology. With Ben’s skills in visual effects and eagerness for innovation, he is an ideal match for our team. As we move forward in crafting groundbreaking AI tools for artists, his guidance will play a significant role in defining the future of animation and VFX, according to Mooser.

Asteria, the owner of documentary studio XTR, operates streaming platform DOCUMENTARY+ and a FAST channel with the same name, providing documentaries to over 120 million American households. Asteria was recently established following the acquisition of AI studio and tech innovator Late Night Labs in the fall season.

In my perspective, the fusion of AI with animation and visual effects in filmmaking is a truly captivating frontier. I’m thrilled to join forces with Asteria, a pioneering team, to craft innovative tools that empower artists and push the boundaries of storytelling for today’s global audiences.

Asteria has just brought on board Don Allen Stevenson III, a seasoned AI innovator with a background at DreamWorks Animation, as their new head of the creative AI pipeline.
