For individuals unfamiliar with role-playing games similar to Dungeons & Dragons: In essence, you navigate through a fantasy world, face tough choices, and may find yourself as a hero (or antagonist), all while using dice rolls to decide the results of your actions. Solasta shares this format and resembles popular RPG titles such as Baldur’s Gate, Pathfinder, and Divinity. We’ve had the opportunity to preview an early demo of Solasta 2, and here are our thoughts on it.

If you enjoyed the essence of Solasta: Crown of the Magister, you’ll likely find delight in knowing that Solasta 2 is expected to stay close to its original formula. Here’s a glimpse into my initial thoughts about the game based on my playtime with the demo.

As a passionate gamer who thrives on being the champion of righteousness, I can’t help but be thrilled by the prospect of Solasta. Unlike other games where you might find yourself entrenched in an evil narrative, this game presents a unique twist: there are no truly malevolent playthroughs, at least not from my experience with the demo.

In Solasta, your mission is to save the world, and the extent of that salvation hinges on your skills as a player. If you perform well, the world may be saved to a greater degree. This game offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact, shaping the world’s fate with every decision you make.

If you’re a fan of Dungeons & Dragons and enjoy role-playing characters with a twist towards anti-hero or even villainous actions, but with a world on fire as the backdrop, then you might find yourself feeling let down unless the complete game offers additional opportunities to transform from hero to the ultimate antagonist. At this stage, Solasta 2’s narrative, while non-linear, appears to be primarily focused on heroic tales.

A concern arises due to limited opportunities for romantic interactions in a DnD campaign, which most of us can concur is crucial. After all, if a rogue tries to win my heart to gain access to a vital character, I might find myself debating the situation and daydreaming about courting her, establishing a home in Assassinville, and raising a brood of young assassins together, wouldn’t that be the case?

To put it simply, since Solasta doesn’t offer such content at this stage, there’s no need to worry about making questionable decisions that could compromise your gameplay experience, like pursuing a flirtatious yet homicidal character for instance. Here’s hoping the full game expands on its narrative and offers more intriguing interactions when it’s released!

The demo may not fully reveal the game’s main narrative, so we must be patient to observe how the storyline and dialogues develop. Instead, let’s focus on understanding what keeps Dungeons & Dragons sessions and RPG gameplays engaging for hours, and it’s primarily combat and exploration!

Although there aren’t drastic alterations, this version bears a strong resemblance to the initial Solasta, but boasts enhanced user interface and an expanded array of features. A wealth of custom content has been added, such as fresh spells, items, and assorted extras. However, you might notice that the interplay between objects, terrain, and spells isn’t as extensive as in typical RPG games. For instance, pouring oil on the ground followed by casting a fireball won’t result in the expected explosion.

In simpler terms, the combat system in Solasta 2 is incredibly user-friendly and offers a great deal of flexibility when it comes to selecting targets and moving your characters. Moreover, exploiting specific combat mechanics feels quite organic, transforming novices into formidable tacticians who might even make experienced Dungeon Masters a bit envious!

Let’s discuss the final topic: the setting where Solasta 2 unfolds and its compatibility with your system. In the demonstration itself, you’ll notice an expansive, intricately designed world. Yet, it appears somewhat limited when it comes to interaction, offering fewer chests, characters, and items compared to what one might expect. This could be a feature of the demo, though.

Regarding the performance aspect, it’s important to note that during the Solasta 2 demo, DLSS and FSR were not available. With the game’s intricate details, even high-end GPUs might struggle to maintain smooth frame rates when running at maximum settings. Nevertheless, given that the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, it’s likely that incorporating widely-used supersampling technologies in the future will be feasible.

In summary, we’ve just had a sneak peek at the Solasta 2 demo. It appears to be an excellent choice for role-playing game enthusiasts, with some refinements here and there, and plenty more story development (begging for romance options).
