In Destiny 2, Trace Rifles dropped out of favor during the Lightfall expansion, following Bungie’s adjustment that no longer allowed players to equip two Special ammunition weapons in the same setup.
Consequently, they have returned, improved significantly, with a substantial boost attributed to the incorporation of Unsworn – a Strand Trace Rifle obtainable from the Sundered Doctrine dungeon.
This outstanding gun boasts multiple extra advantages as meta perks, but what truly makes it stand out is its Origin Feature, called Subjugation. Essentially, this feature provides the Trace Rifle with the benefits of Explosive Payload without requiring a perk to be allocated for it. To put it simply, it offers an additional burst damage and even some area-of-effect harm in instances where enemies are grouped together.
Among the elite Trace Rifles such as Warlord’s Spear, none quite match up to the Unsworn. This fresh addition stands out significantly, delivering damage on par with top-tier Rocket Handguns and even Fusion Rifles. What sets it apart is its exceptional ammo efficiency.
Unsworn god roll – Meta analysis
- Barrel: Chambered Compensator
- Magazine: Enhanced Battery
- Perk 1: Shoot to Loot
- Perk 2: Detonator Beam
- Origin Trait: Subjugation
- Masterwork: Reload Speed
It’s quite a challenge deciding whether Shoot to Loot or Rewind Rounds is more advantageous, but we suggest going with the former. Besides boosting Unsworn’s versatility by enabling you to gather Orbs of Power and ammo packs from afar, it also activates its Origin Trait for a fantastic combination with this perk.
In the alternative column, the choice seems clearer due to reasons. The Detonator Beam, a fresh perk introduced in Heresy, closely resembles Kinetic Tremors but for Trace Rifles. Given the current popularity of Kinetic Tremors, it’s not unexpected that this is equally effective, if not superior, given that this weapon type surpasses any primary weapon in terms of base damage.
One standout feature of this god-roll is its versatility, making it effective across all character builds and loadouts. It doesn’t necessitate playing the Strand subclass or using a specific Exotic; in fact, there’s hardly any situation where having a high-damage, ammo-conservative weapon isn’t beneficial.
