As a movie buff, I recently found myself captivated by the gripping political thriller series “Zero Day,” streaming on Netflix. In this intriguing narrative, the charismatic Dan Stevens embodies Evan Green – an outspoken internet sensation who unwittingly gets entangled in a high-stakes White House probe concerning a worldwide cyber assault.
In this movie, Robert De Niro portrays George Mullen, a retired U.S. president who takes on an investigation. During one intense scene, the characters De Niro and Stevens find themselves almost touching noses as Mullen interrogates Green. According to Stevens in a recent interview for “Just for EbMaster” podcast, this confrontation was particularly effective because Mullen, a towering figure in the story until now, is suddenly standing before De Niro. It added an element of excitement to the interaction. The meeting, although not overly friendly, was exactly what one might expect – a touch of apprehension as Stevens felt somewhat intimidated by De Niro’s imposing presence.
I had a chat with Stevens over Zoom, right from his residence in the Los Angeles area. The discussion has been shortened and made clearer for this context. You can hear the full conversation at “Just for EbMaster” or any platform where you get your podcasts.
In this new version, I’ve aimed to make it more conversational and less formal while maintaining the original meaning.

Do you typically send a message home after finishing a scene or wrapping up for the day, stating something like, “I just acted alongside Robert De Niro?”?
Instead of broadcasting a mass message, it’s more like a personal secret for most actors – performing alongside Robert De Niro is an unforgettable dream come true, almost surreal, like saying “I can’t believe this actually happened.” Without revealing too much about the series, that interrogation scene was incredibly intense. To be immersed in such a dramatic situation, and then to glance up and see De Niro sitting across from me at the table, it was an extremely bizarre, yet fantastic experience. I think it significantly enhanced the show’s impact.
In this scenario, it seems like you’re suggesting that:
– Robert De Niro played the role of a former president, which might be likened to Bill Clinton.
– Joan Allen portrayed the former first lady, reminiscent of Hillary Clinton. She is now being considered for a position as a Supreme Court justice.
– Angela Bassett took on the role of the current president, possibly representing Kamala Harris.
However, it’s important to note that this is a fictional scenario using actors and characters from movies or TV shows, not real-life individuals or political figures.
I believe it’s pointless to ask, “Who is who?” when considering the similarities, as people naturally tend to do so. The same applies to Evan Green; people might wonder if he resembles Tucker Carlson or Ben Shapiro, but he isn’t any of them. Instead, we find ourselves in a parallel narrative with this tale. There are indeed echoes of certain administrations and comparisons can be drawn, but they should be seen as parallels rather than direct representations.
Is Evan Green based on Tucker Carlson?
He is not Tucker Carlson. No.
Am I the first one to tell that you sounded like Tucker Carlson?
No, not at all.
If Donald Trump contacts you and proposes showing “Zero Day” at the White House, how would you respond?
Listen, I’m a busy guy. It’s probably not going to fit in the calendar, unfortunately.
Instead,
You need to move on to another project that involves the development of the Bumble dating app. In this production, Lily James portrays Whitney Wolfe Herd, the app’s founder, while you take on the role of her investor, Andrey Andreev.
It seems like they’re currently revising the title. As for the new one, I’m unsure yet, but the latest information I got suggests that the current title might not be permanent.
Did you meet with Taylor or Andrey?
Instead of being legally bound by various NDAs and restrictions, we simply didn’t have access to an abundance of material on Whitney and Andrey. However, there is a wealth of recordings and references concerning Whitney, but fewer resources for Andrey. There are only a few interviews and speeches he gave at conferences, yet I managed to use them to learn the accent and other aspects, which proved to be an enjoyable process.
So back in the day, were you swiping? Were you on Bumble or Tinder?
As for that particular topic, it seems to have emerged later during my era, or so it appears. The world has certainly evolved, becoming quite novel and intriguing. I’m acquainted with some individuals who are deeply engrossed in it. In a way, it’s a fascinating kind of social dynamic. One of my friends refers to it as “Human Candy Crush.
Did you sign on to Bumble under an alias for research to be like, “OK, how did this all work?”
I wish I had made that decision. It would have been quite exciting, but there could have been potential complications. Friends have introduced me to various apps. One friend, in the early days of Grindr, demonstrated it to me underground a Broadway theater. He pointed out a man who was 750 feet away, and I was puzzled, thinking he was talking about distance on the street. But no, these were indicators of numerous nearby gay men, like little dots on a radar, surrounding us. It gave me quite a fright.
They’re not horny gay men. We’re just looking for love, Dan. It’s just love.
They might be horny. We don’t know.
“Zero Day” is now available to stream on Netflix.
