Blackpink’s Jisoo, Seo In-guk to Star in Netflix K-Drama ‘Boyfriend on Demand’

Netflix has given the go-ahead to a fresh, comedic Korean romance series titled “Boyfriend on Demand” (working title), starring Blackpink member Jisoo and Seo In-guk (“Doom at Your Service,” “Café Minamdang”) in prominent roles.

This captivating drama revolves around a stressed webtoon creator who finds herself embarking on a romantic journey through a premium virtual reality dating platform. In this production, Jisoo assumes the role of Seo Mi-rae, a dedicated professional with a demanding career. Her love life takes an unforeseen twist when she acquires a “Monthly Boyfriend” device, enabling her to date seemingly flawless digital companions.

Seo In-guk will portray Park Kyeong-nam, a fellow webtoon creator who appears cold but hides intricate layers within. The complicated relationship between him and Mi-rae is expected to introduce an element of suspense into the developing office romance storyline.

Leading the way is director Kim Jung-sik, renowned for his skillful handling of shows such as the comedy-drama “Work Later, Drink Now” and the comedy-romance “No Gain No Love.” Given his past work, it’s reasonable to expect that the series will effectively blend its futuristic concept with heartfelt, relatable storytelling.

The series is part of Netflix’s ongoing commitment to Korean content, building on their successful run in romantic productions. Recently, Netflix revealed their planned releases up until 2025.

The show represents the latest acting project for Jisoo, who has recently achieved success in “Snowdrop” on Disney+ and JTBC, as well as her new series on Prime Video titled “Newtopia.” This series premiered in February and follows a couple’s attempt to reconnect amidst a zombie outbreak in Seoul. In the show, Park Jeon-min plays Lee Jae-yoon, who is completing his mandatory military service, while Jisoo portrays Kang Young-joo, a woman facing early career difficulties as his girlfriend.

In early January, Jisoo sealed a worldwide recording contract with Warner Records to launch her individual music projects. Her first solo EP, titled “Amortage,” is scheduled for a February 14th release.
