17 years following his role in “Hancock,” Will Smith is hinting at potential information regarding a sequel for the superhero movie.
During his guest spot on xQc’s live Twitch broadcast, the Academy Award-winning actor shared additional details about the project.
During the live broadcast, Hancock shared an exciting prospect for ‘Hancock 2’. He hinted, “There’s a fantastic idea brewing, and here’s a tiny tidbit – Zendaya is being considered for a part in ‘Hancock 2’.
Back in 2008, I found myself captivated by the movie “Hancock,” where Will Smith donned the role of a superhuman character with memory loss and a penchant for booze. This larger-than-life figure, who was accustomed to rescuing people from peril in LA, often left quite a mess behind. A pivotal moment came when he saved a pair – Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron – and their lives intertwined with his. Together, we attempted to polish his tarnished public image and help him rediscover his past.
The movie “Sony’s Production” was helmed by director Peter Berg, who subsequently directed “Deepwater Horizon” and “Patriots Day,” both featuring Mark Wahlberg. The script for this film was penned by Vy Vincent Ngo and the creator of “Breaking Bad,” Vince Gilligan. The film raked in over $600 million globally, despite a production budget of only $150 million.
Sony had no comment on the sequel plans.
It’s not unheard of that discussions about a “Hancock” sequel have resurfaced. As far back as 2009, Berg mentioned to MTV News that everyone would return for a follow-up. More recently, in 2020, Theron told ComicBook that conversations had dwindled since the movie’s premiere, but she’d be eager to reprise her role if asked.
Recently, Smith was awarded an Academy Award for “King Richard”, a feat that came at the same Oscars ceremony where he infamously slapped Chris Rock. In contrast, Zendaya bagged two Emmys for her portrayal of Rue in the HBO series “Euphoria”. Filming for Season 3 commenced earlier this year.
