After keeping fans in suspense for several months, HBO has at last disclosed that the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2 is set for Sunday, April 13th. Earlier in January, they confirmed the show’s return this April without providing a specific date, but now we have the exact date!
Previously, astute fans had correctly guessed that April 13 was the expected release date because it fell a week after the final episode of The White Lotus’s third season. Starting from where Season 1 concluded, Season 2 will adapt The Last of Us Part II over several seasons, with the action occurring five years later.
As I dive back into Season 2 of “The Last of Us,” I find myself distanced emotionally from Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), thanks to the tough decisions Joel made at the end of last season. But fear not, a fresh perspective is on the horizon in the form of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), a character who’s bound to shake things up big time.
Joining the cast is Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Notably, Jeffrey Wright will be reprising his role from the game as Isaac. Can’t wait to see how these new faces intertwine with familiar ones in this post-apocalyptic world!
According to HBO’s Drama Executive Vice President, Francesa Orsi, it is expected that The Last of Us will span just four seasons. Co-showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have hinted to fans that Season 2 may incorporate scenes from the game that were initially deemed too violent, but didn’t make the final cut. Moreover, they mentioned that the series’ timeline might not align perfectly with the game’s sequence of events.
