Permabanned Streamers May Make a Comeback on Twitch After Major Policy Shift!

As a dedicated streamer, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Twitch’s significant upgrade to their ban system! For many of us who have faced permanent bans in the past, this change could potentially open the door for a second chance to engage with our communities once more.

On February 19, Twitch revealed updates to their ban management system following an admission that there were significant issues with the original setup.

One significant shift involves penalties for breaching the site’s community rules. Previously, rule violations would be tied to accounts permanently, and accumulating several minor offenses could lead to a prolonged ban.

Moving ahead, rule breaches will be dismissed after a maximum period of 90 days, offering fresh opportunities to streamers. Yet, repeated transgressions concerning the same offense will lead to more severe consequences and extended bans.

Twitch explains that this modification aims to minimize the chance of streamers losing their audiences and income sources due to minor rule infractions. However, for those who have faced issues under previous policies, there might be a glimmer of optimism.

Today, we’re implementing improvements to our monitoring system. The aim is to provide you with a smoother experience in managing your violation record and understanding your channel’s status; minimize the chance that streamers face losing their audiences and income due to minor infractions; and ultimately…

They mentioned that if your account had been permanently blocked before, it would stay that way. However, if you wish to regain access, you can make an appeal or ask for the reactivation of your account if it has been inactive for more than six months.

It appears that Twitch is considering cases where channels have received permanent bans as a result of repeated minor rule violations spanning multiple years.

Twitch acknowledges that the previous system was unfairly harsh towards veteran streamers, as it took into account past infractions which could lead to excessively strict penalties over time.

On the very same day that these alterations were made, Twitch lifted Sliker’s ban which had been in place for more than two years, only to re-suspend him shortly afterward.

There seems to be uncertainty about whether there’s a connection, but it appears that severely penalized streamers who have been banned indefinitely might get reinstated if their infractions were primarily minor ones.
