‘Mufasa,’ ‘Gladiator 2’ Lift Imax Quarterly Earnings as Company Predicts Record 2025

During Q4, blockbusters such as “Mufasa: The Lion King”, “Gladiator II” and a re-run of Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” significantly boosted earnings and revenues for Imax. This increase was evident in the company’s revenue which grew by 8%, reaching $92.7 million, as compared to $86 million in the previous year. Notably, Imax’s net income more than doubled, amounting to $5 million compared to $2.5 million. The earnings per share also saw a considerable increase, from 16 cents in the previous year to 27 cents in this period.

Nevertheless, IMAX stocks experienced a significant decline in post-market trading, plunging approximately 5%, as the company’s earnings did not meet analyst expectations. Analysts had predicted that the company would report earnings of 29 cents per share and revenues totalling $104.8 million.

Impossible,” “Jurassic World,” and “Avatar.” These films appear to be perfect fits for Imax’s premium screens. In 2025, Imax predicts a record-breaking box office revenue exceeding $1.2 billion.

Various forthcoming films such as “Superman,” “F1,” and Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” are among those that have been shot using IMAX cameras. In the past, this filming approach has significantly boosted ticket sales at IMAX theaters.

Imax’s appeal among film studios has never been greater; these studios are securing Imax release dates sooner than before, offering us a clear view of upcoming films for several years,” stated Imax CEO Richard Gelfond to analysts.

It appears that China remains a significant contributor to revenue once more. Imax is particularly satisfied with the box office success of “Ne Zha 2,” the Chinese New Year hit, which has raked in over $111 million at Imax screens so far, making it their top-grossing release in China.

Imax’s patented technology is distributed globally to theaters, significantly contributing to its profits alongside ticket sales. In the year 2024, they installed 146 new systems worldwide. For the current year, Imax predicts installing between 145 and 160 new systems.
