Overwatch 2 Steam Reviews Are Finally Turning Around

Overwatch 2‘s latest season offers a wealth of fresh content, and the excitement from players is noticeably improving Steam review ratings.

In a groundbreaking change, Overwatch has launched Hero Perks – a fresh feature that empowers players to tailor their characters with additional abilities during gameplay as they progress and level up these heroes. This significant shift in gameplay dynamics enables Tracer to execute multiple teleports or Echo to restart her flight following specific kills.

Refreshingly, Hero Perks invigorated Overwatch, a game that was starting to feel stale in the face of fresh competition from Marvel Rivals. Moreover, Blizzard reintroduced loot boxes, allowing players to acquire additional cosmetics at no cost, along with pledges of hero bans and upcoming character introductions.

Due to the tremendous success of the new content, Steam reviews for Overwatch – previously infamous as one of Steam’s worst games ever – are now showing signs of improvement, leaning towards more favorable feedback.

Overwatch audience reviews are slowly improving

During its debut on Steam, Overwatch generally received a lot of negative feedback, with some suggesting that it might have been due to review bombing. However, many players were unhappy because the game launched with a short three-mission PvE campaign priced at $15 and also due to the transition to a free-to-play model, which they found unsatisfactory.

As a result of the development team adopting a riskier approach for Hero Perks and implementing a more player-friendly cosmetics system that caters to a free-to-play audience, we’ve seen an increase in favorable reviews from players.

One reviewer expressed, “The dev team’s work so far really resonates with me.” In truth, I must admit that my appreciation for [Overwatch 2] has grown significantly compared to the past. They demonstrate an active effort in incorporating user feedback and are willing to take calculated risks. Here’s hoping we can all look beyond the past conflicts between [Overwatch 1 & 2].

A different critic expressed pleasure about the path Overwatch 2 seems to be taking, yet remains cautious regarding its upcoming developments.

The reviewer commented, “At last, Overwatch is a terrific hero shooter I can endorse to anyone seeking a game that caters to both casual and competitive players, with an intriguing backstory and fresh incentives for active participation. However, I’ll keep my hopes in check to avoid another disappointing experience.

Current feedback remains “Mixed,” as numerous critics have been flooding the game with negative reviews, often comparing it unfavorably to Marvel Rivals or fixated on Blizzard’s past achievements. However, Overwatch 2 is steadily moving towards a point where it could justify its sequel title, and the outlook for the future appears promising.
