Oh no, Thragg dives down and seizes her by the foot. In a split second, it seems like he’s preparing to squash her head as if it were an empty can, but Oliver arrives on the scene at the nick of time to bring Thragg to the ground with a tackle.

They argue, but things don’t work out well between them. After a brief struggle, Thragg hits Oliver so hard that his internal organs spill out of his back, causing him to die almost immediately.

How the comic explains Oliver’s death

It appears that the Viltrumites can withstand more damage than what kills Oliver in Invincible, and it’s possible that the secret to their healing capabilities and resilience lies within their heart structures.

Consider this: In Invincible Season 2, Nolan didn’t die despite having his spine fractured; Omni-Man brutally defeated Mark in Season 1, leaving his face disfigured beyond recognition, yet he managed to live; and during the prison breakout, Nolan and Allen fatally struck a Viltrumite soldier by delivering a powerful double-punch that essentially severed his head from his body.

It isn’t explicitly explained, but it appears that Oliver meets his end due to the severe damage inflicted on his heart by Thragg’s punch. A fellow character explains that when a Viltrumite’s heart is harmed, their body may lack the strength to heal itself.

Oliver’s fate is still controversial for Invincible fans
