Octavia Spencer drew inspiration from her Academy Award-winning character in “The Help” to deliver a straightforward message to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Quoting Minny Jackson, she asserted with conviction: “Taste this tough love.
Spencer posted about an upcoming bake sale for Washington, open to all DOGE employees and supporters. In his post, he included a picture of Minny from ‘The Help’ holding her famous poop pie. He specified that he needs premium vanilla from Mexico and Canadian maple syrup for these special edition pies, which will be flavored with corn and chocolate. To make these pies, he’ll need many donations for the secret ingredient. He also shared a form below to fill out, asking who you would like to send a pie to.
At the end of his post, Spencer used the hashtag “#MinnyJacksonCallToAction.” In the movie “The Help,” Spencer’s character, Minny, takes revenge on the manipulative socialite Hilly Holbrook (played by Bryce Dallas Howard) by secretly adding her own feces to a chocolate pie she bakes for Hilly. The climax of the scene sees Minny boldly stating to Hilly: “Taste my anger!” or, more bluntly, “Eat my frustration!
In November, Donald Trump delegated Elon Musk to streamline the United States government’s bureaucracy through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The name of the department is a playful nod to Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency that Musk is often linked with. Alongside former Republican primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk was given the responsibility to oversee DOGE. This appointment has been met with some controversy.

In a statement, Musk expressed that DOGE will generate ripples throughout the system, and there are many people in government who might be involved in waste!
Ever since Trump assumed presidency in January, DOGE has been reducing departments within the federal government. Recently, Attorneys General from 14 different states filed a lawsuit against DOGE. As per Associated Press, “The lawsuit alleges that the actions taken by Musk while leading DOGE can only be executed by a confirmed official by the Senate. It references constitutional provisions defining Congress and presidential powers. The Attorneys General argue that the court should prevent Musk from giving orders to anyone in the executive branch beyond DOGE and declare his actions as invalid.
