BBC Studios has announced an extensive growth in its long-term collaboration with Movistar Plus+ in Spain, offering fresh content to Spanish viewers. This news surfaces just before BBC Studios’ annual Showcase event on February 24-25 and signifies a substantial boost in the company’s influence within the Spanish market.
In the upcoming multi-year agreement, BBC Studios plans to debut BBC Player – a Video on Demand (VOD) platform that offers around 1,000 hours of carefully selected content from the extensive BBC library. This service will offer both scripted and unscripted programs such as “The Louis Theroux Interviews” and “Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job.” The BBC Player is set to become accessible for Movistar Plus+ subscribers later this year, coinciding with the launch of additional Free Ad-supported Streaming TV (FAST) channels.
Over the last ten years, BBC Studios and Movistar Plus+ have teamed up to bring Spanish audiences the best of BBC’s original content, particularly focusing on top-tier drama and wildlife series. Highlights from this collaboration include “Planet Earth III,” “Mammals,” as well as popular dramas such as “Time 2” and “Blue Lights.” This extended partnership will further introduce Spanish viewers to BBC Earth productions, including the eagerly awaited “Blue Planet III” and “Kingdom.”
