Netflix’s New Medical Drama ‘Pulse’ Is Grey’s Anatomy Meets New Amsterdam—Here’s What We Know!

Looking for a fresh medical drama to indulge in urgently? Shows like Grey’s Anatomy and New Amsterdam have left us craving for more, but luckily, Netflix has come to our rescue by introducing a new series that should hit the spot!

Incredibly, Grey’s Anatomy has reached its 21st season, positioning itself as one of the longest-lasting television series in recent times. Although some beloved characters like Cristina Yang may no longer be present, the series continues to deliver plenty of dramatic moments.

Regrettably, my beloved series “New Amsterdam” didn’t continue its captivating journey beyond the fifth season. The abrupt ending, which featured an unexpected time leap concerning Max Goodwin’s daughter, left me yearning for more.

Instead of revisiting the excitement anew, imagine starting it fresh once more! Netflix is ramping up anticipation with a freshly minted medical drama guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings right off the bat.

New medical drama Pulse comes to Netflix this April

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but imagine the captivating fusion of Grey’s Anatomy and New Amsterdam if they were to collaborate and bring forth a fresh, streaming series. That dream comes to life on April 3, 2025 with the arrival of Pulse, exclusively on Netflix.

With a hurricane heading straight for Miami’s most active Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year doctor, Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), finds himself suddenly elevated to the role usually held by Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell), as he has been temporarily suspended.

As the storm deteriorates and emergency cases pile up, the hospital enforces a lockdown, forcing Danny and Phillips to collaborate – despite the revelation of a secret and scandalous relationship they share, which is now coming to light.”

Or, more casually:

“With the storm getting worse and an influx of trauma patients, the hospital goes into lockdown. This puts Danny and Phillips in a tricky situation, as they need to work together – all while dealing with the fact that they’ve been secretly involved in a scandalous romance.

The remainder of the Emergency Room team must deal with the aftermath of their broken relationship, all the while managing their individual struggles – personal and professional – under the intense stress of saving lives.

In essence, it’s similar to Grey’s Anatomy but amplified, with a hint of the dramatic natural disasters seen in Fire Country added for extra intensity.

Willia Fitzgerald, Colin Woodell, and Justina Machado are the main actors in this production, with Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher, Chelsea Muirhead, Daniela Nieves, and Jessy Yates providing additional support.

Carlton Cuse, the showrunner, explained to Netflix that these days, your professional team might become as significant as your actual family. The intricacies that develop – both inside and outside work hours – can turn into a tangled web. It can get complicated. That’s what we aimed to delve into with Pulse.

Showrunner Zoe Robyn stated that we aimed to make our characters feel like authentic individuals dealing with familiar challenges of teamwork under high stress. As bonds develop and fray within Pulse, relationships are constantly evolving.

On April 3rd, Pulse will premiere on Netflix. However, if you can’t hold your excitement until then, you can stream both Grey’s Anatomy and New Amsterdam right now on Netflix.
