Regardless of how “Love Is Blind” chooses to label itself as an “experiment”, it’s clear that it is a television program. Recently, it has provided us with intriguing yet dysfunctional matches in the pods, only to leave us hanging when it comes to their engagement. Last season, Brittany and Leo were unceremoniously dismissed by producers due to their crime of being too watchable. This season, the most dramatic pairs have called it quits before even reaching the big reveal. Therefore, we’re not shy in stating that it’s high time for the producers to step up their game and put some rings on those fingers.
To clarify, the central pairings under discussion are Mason Horacek and Meg Fink, as well as Alex Brown and Madison Errichiello. These four individuals dominated most of episodes 1 through 6. Mason had relationships with both Madison and Meg, while Madison was involved with both Mason and Alex. Meg is a follower of Joe Rogan who bonded with Mason over their shared appreciation for the movie Her. Madison is an artist who discusses her work openly, which often involves references to ‘creampies.’ Alex is a highly anxious individual who tends to be attracted to women who are emotionally unavailable. In the end, Madison ended her relationship with Mason and opted for Alex, but this didn’t last due to Alex’s concerns about Madison’s emotional distance. Consequently, Mason and Meg also parted ways because Meg felt insecure and unsure of Mason’s feelings, leading to their break-up. In a span of just two dates, the most intriguing couples of the season have vanished, leaving us with one couple grappling with a five-year age difference and another embroiled in a church dispute. Frankly, it’s becoming quite dull!
In “Love Is Blind,” tension within couples is central to the show’s plot, but with all couples leaving, there’s no more conflict. The post-pod stage is called a vacation for a reason; it not only lets individuals meet physically, as Nick Lachey might say, but also allows all participants to interact outside of their own pairs, creating the most dramatic moments of the series. However, since none of this season’s couples seem interested in each other, we’re expecting plenty of beach scenes in Honduras instead. This could be a problem because viewers tune into “Love Is Blind” to see relationships like Jessica and Barnett unfold while Jessica is engaged to Mark. In this new season, every couple seems to be as compatible as Brett and Tiffany (if they’re lucky).
In simpler terms, It’s no secret that producers influence the shows they create, and this was clearly demonstrated in the TV series UnReal. However, despite what Love Is Blind producers claim, it seems like they’re trying to give off the impression that they don’t manipulate things. As Chris Coelen told Vulture in 2024, they want to focus on the participants they believe are genuine and not encourage fake behavior for the sake of TV. But perhaps it’s time for a change, as the show is missing out on some intriguing couples and engaging drama by not interfering more. Last season’s Leo and Brittany, and this season’s unconnected pairs, could have provided more exciting content to watch than just a group of Minnesotans being friendly towards each other. So, producers, maybe it’s time to get involved!
