The world of “Blue Bloods” is broadening with the development of a spin-off focusing on Danny Reagan, portrayed by Donnie Wahlberg. Titled “Boston Blue” (working title), this offshoot has secured a direct-to-series order from CBS. Created by “S.W.A.T.” writers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, the series will depict Raegan in a fresh role – not in New York City but within Boston’s Police Department.
Over there, he is paired with Detective Lena Peters, who hails from a well-known law enforcement dynasty.
Following the termination of “Blue Bloods” after a 14-season run, the cast expressed their desire to carry on, yet Wahlberg seemed uncertain as to how they could do so without maintaining the family aspect.
Maintaining the integrity will require a delicate balance, and it seems the family can’t reside in New York. If I were Danny, I’d drive from Ohio to attend every dinner there, as Wahlberg explained to EbMaster about his character. For now, we’re proceeding cautiously while keeping an eye on potential revival possibilities.
The series titled “Boston Blue” is jointly created by CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television. Sonnier and Margolis are set to take on the roles of showrunners and executive producers for this production. Additionally, Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg will all serve as executive producers.
