On Sunday evening, during the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live, Kevin Spacey was mentioned as a joke when Fred Armisen asked about inviting him back as host. However, just a few days later, more allegations against Spacey have surfaced. This time, it’s Guy Pearce, an Academy Award-nominated actor from the film The Brutalist, who has spoken out. Pearce claimed that Spacey made persistent advances towards him in 1997 while they were working together on L.A. Confidential. According to Pearce, he felt intimidated by Spacey because of his aggressive behavior. Despite Spacey’s impressive charm and talent, Pearce was young and vulnerable at the time, and he believes that Spacey deliberately targeted him. He shared these accounts with The Hollywood Reporter.
In 2018, during an interview on the Australian talk show “Interview”, Pearce referred to Spacey as a “handsy guy” following the initial allegations against him. During that conversation, he said, “Tough one to talk about at the moment. Amazing actor; incredible actor. Mmm. Slightly difficult time with Kevin, yeah,” later adding, “Thankfully, I was 29, and not 14.” Now, Pearce shares a different account of how he felt when Spacey’s allegations first surfaced. “I was in London working on something, and I heard [the reports] and I broke down and sobbed, and I couldn’t stop,” he said. “I think it really hit me then the impact that had occurred and how I either shelved it or blocked it out.” Reflecting on the difference between now and his initial interview, Pearce stated, “I just try to be more honest about it now and call it for what it is.
2017 saw the first accusations against Kevin Spacey, with actor Anthony Rapp claiming that Spacey had made inappropriate advances towards him when Rapp was just 14. However, Spacey was found not responsible in the subsequent court case. In 2023, he was also acquitted of sexual assault charges in a British court. A 2024 documentary titled “Spacey Unmasked” further accused him of sexual assault. In response to these allegations, Spacey stated: “I have denied and successfully defended numerous accusations made both in the U.S. and U.K., both criminal and civil. Each time I have been able to provide evidence contradicting the allegations, and a jury has believed my account.” During an interview with Dan Wootton, he further explained: “I accept responsibility for any past inappropriate behavior and actions of mine. However, I cannot or will not apologize to anyone who has fabricated stories about me or exaggerated accounts of events that never occurred.
