Idols in PoE is new endgame system temporarily replacing the Atlas Tree. Devs reveal its secrets

Last week, Grinding Gear Games studio disclosed significant details about the upcoming Legacy of Phrecia event in Path of Exile 1. Yet, it doesn’t imply that we now know everything new, as developers are holding back a few minor enhancements to reveal later. They’ve recently unveiled these smaller improvements on the game’s official website.

How to get and recombine Idols

Among the exciting novelties in Legacy of Phrecia, a standout addition is a revamped endgame system, effectively replacing the popular Atlas tree. This system will be known as Idols, offering various modifiers to maps. We delved deeper into its workings in one of our previous updates, and now the developers have shared further insights about it.

In the game, you can obtain Idols primarily by having them dropped by monsters. Yet, there’s another avenue: “Purchasing” them from Faustus in Kingsmarch, once we’ve enhanced the black market, will require gold. However, you won’t be able to view the item’s specifications until you decide to make the purchase.

As a gamer, when I find myself with an excess of Idols, the creators have thoughtfully provided options for rebalancing my collection. One method they’ve introduced is trading surplus items for fresh ones from a vendor. For example, if I present three identical magical Idols, I’ll receive a randomly selected magical Idol in return, still belonging to the same base. Another way they’ve made available is combining, which I can do at Isly in Kingsmarch.

Additionally, it’s been communicated that the game includes multiple fresh, distinct Idols, and these can influence our choices of content. For instance, the Twisted Wish Unique Idol was demonstrated, which boosts the starting level of Ultimatum mechanics’ modifiers. Yet, this comes with a trade-off, as it lowers the probability of particular rewards. This gives us the opportunity to focus on the ones we value most.

On February 20th at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time, the Phrecia Legacy event kicks off! Special prizes are ready for gamers, some of which will be incorporated into POE 2 as well.
