Today you can play the demo of the next gen World War 2 wargame – Task Force Admiral. A Kickstarter is being launched to fund a 1990s-style boxed edition

To put it mildly, I’m more than just a fan of strategy war games – I’m completely immersed in them! So, when I learned that Task Force Admiral is set to release a 90s-style collector’s edition box (fun fact: I have quite a few of those), my excitement reached new heights. This upcoming single-player aircraft carriers simulation, brimming with intricate details, transports you right into the early stages of the Pacific War in 1942. The demo is already available on Steam, and a Kickstarter campaign will be launched soon to bring that highly anticipated Big Box edition to fruition.

Task Force Admiral blends wargaming & simulation in the most authentic way yet

In 2025, you’ll find yourself immersed in the single-player war simulation titled “Task Force Admiral.” This game combines the intricacies of wargaming with the realism of a full 3D environment. There are no dice rolls or artificial statistics; instead, it offers real-time strategic decision-making, historical accuracy, and pulse-pounding naval-air combat. With more than 90 ship classes, 40 aircraft types, and over 30 scenarios that range from the historical to the hypothetical, “Task Force Admiral” appears to be one of the most detailed World War II naval command games ever created. This game is a tribute to classic naval simulations like “Carriers at War” and “Pacific Air War.

As a U.S. Navy flag officer, we find ourselves in the thick of action, making split-second decisions from the flag plot equipped with an advanced “fog of war” system that keeps us on our toes. Alternatively, we can take a step back and adopt a strategic perspective by switching to a classic top-down view, allowing for flexible camera angles and customizable realism settings.

We have the opportunity to reenact iconic battles from 1942, commanding historically accurate ships and squadrons adorned with authentic camouflages and markings. Furthermore, we can design our own carrier battles using the mission builder and scenario generator, or replay pivotal moments in 3D with the post-battle replay system.

Here’s a glimpse at the fighter combat module being tested in the game.

The demonstration version of Strategic War Games was tested ahead of time, and our team was privileged to provide initial thoughts. In summary:

Let me highlight the sense of genuine immersion and expansiveness found within this game, as well as the vast opportunities it offers for exploring unconventional strategies that deviate significantly from their original historical counterparts.

…I found Task Force Admiral incredibly impressive; it seems more like a future war strategy game, if such a concept exists.

The most interesting part is coming up now – the “Task Force Admiral” project, a genuine labor of love from a small team at Drydock Dreams Games. This team consists of Admiral (producer), Julien (illustrator), Rizki (3D artist), and Jean-Baptiste, who serves as the creative force driving the entire project and leads development.

In this version, I’ve tried to maintain the original meaning while making the sentence more natural and easier to read by breaking it into shorter sentences and using simpler language.

The classic Big Box dream

In order to officially debut Task Force Admiral, the creators will shortly unveil a Kickstarter campaign, offering various reward levels for contributors.

  1. Digital Edition & Deluxe Version: The base game via Steam key, plus a variety of digital extras, all redeemable at launch.
  2. Big Box Physical Edition: A true MicroProste-style 90s throwback, packed with a manual, historical supplements, posters, postcards, and all the nostalgic goodness fans of Task Force 1942 or 1942: Pacific Air War will love.
  3. Mega Box (Deluxe Physical Edition): Everything from the Deluxe Digital Edition, but in physical form: stunning art books, a digipack for the soundtrack, and re-edited US Navy doctrine manuals from the era.

Additionally, here’s a surprise for those who want an even more immersive experience: you could get your hands on special items like limited edition artworks, collectible coins, or possibly even see yourself represented within the game itself!
