In the upcoming production titled “After Elena,” Colombia’s Doc:Co is teaming up to co-produce this project. This movie will be led by renowned Latin American actor, Alfredo Castro, whose performances in films such as Tony Manero, ‘No’, and ‘The Club’ significantly contributed to Pablo Larraín’s rise as a successful international filmmaker.
Gabriela Sandoval, based in Berlin, spearheaded the creation of “After Elena”, a production under her labels Cine Matriz and Storyboard Media, collaborating with Carlos Nuñez. This film represents the much-anticipated second feature by Chilean director-producer Shawn Garry, who previously captivated audiences with his debut, critically acclaimed movie “Desierto Sur”.
Garry’s self-owned label, Creative Content, collaborates with Italian co-producer Zoe Films. Together, they presented “Vittoria” at the Venice Days in 2024. This film is directed by Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman, and it was also co-produced by Nanni Moretti’s Sacher Film.
Following Elena is characterized by Sandoval as a blend of tragedy and comedy, signifying a return to the genre of dark comedy by Castro. The production is slated for the year 2025, as shared by Sandoval with EbMaster.
Garry not only directs and co-wrote along with Carla Stagno as script supervisor.
Following the successful launch of “Otra Piel” at 2023’s Ventana Sur, where it was supported by Cine Matriz, Doc:Co has now transitioned into full production, as previously known as “After Elena.
Under Consuelo Castillo’s leadership, Doc:Co achieves success in Colombia’s domestic distribution with “Amparo” by Simón Mesa Soto (produced by Ocultimo), “Alis” by Clare Weiskopft and Nicolás van Hemelryck (produced by Casa Tarantula), and “Un Varón” by Fabián Hernández, which also represents Colombia in the Oscar race (produced by Medio de Contención).
Sandoval also serves as head of industry for the Santiago International Film Festival (Sanfic).
