Gullane+ Expands Horizons with Major Distribution Moves and New Projects

Leading Brazilian entertainment company Gullane Entertainment is intensifying its reach with Gullane+, their rapidly expanding distribution division. Co-founders Fabiano and Caio Gullane will now primarily focus on production, while Débora Ivanov assumes control over distribution operations. The expanded Gullane+ now manages a vast collection of more than 40 projects from the company, such as Karim Aïnouz’s “Mariner of the Mountains” and Laís Bodanzky’s acclaimed “Brainstorm.” Additionally, it will showcase upcoming projects by André Ristum and Flavia Moraes, promising an exciting lineup.

In Berlin, EbMaster conversed with Fabiano Gullane, who highlighted that Gullane is intensifying its distribution endeavors. According to Fabiano, the trio has always found joy in the distribution aspect of their work and have recognized the potential of utilizing their extensive experience to manage some of their titles. To begin with, Gullane+ will prioritize documentaries and smaller productions, while continuing significant projects through their established partnership with Brazilian distributors such as Paris Filmes.

Gullane emphasized the goal of enhancing the overseas distribution of Brazilian media content. This is our initial move towards that objective. With our extensive background in international production and collaboration with sales companies, our ambition is to collaborate with agents for foreign markets, enabling co-selling. I believe within a year or two, as we grow more skilled in this area, we could potentially start selling through Gullane+.

Notable offerings from Gullane+’s lineup feature an exciting upcoming project led by “The Year My Parents Went on Vacation” director Cao Hamburger, entitled “School Without Borders.” This project is inspired by a real-life tale of Braz Nogueira, who transitioned from being an educator to the principal of a public school situated in Heliópolis – one of Brazil’s largest slums.

Gullane comments that it’s a significant comeback for Cao, following a decade spent on television,” says Gullane, who further shares with EbMaster that they’ve recently secured Julio Andrade, known for his role in ‘Under Pressure’, to star in the upcoming film.

Another significant undertaking, titled “Sandra Kogut’s ‘New Cancun,'” is another collaborative feature film that features Regina Casé, winner of the Sundance Acting award for “The Second Mother.” This production is also a sequel to “Three Summers.” Gullane revealed to EbMaster that in addition to Globo Filmes and Gloria Filmes, TeleCine has recently joined as a co-producer, captivated by the popularity of Casé – one of Brazil’s most renowned actors.

A hamburger is involved in a second collaboration with Gullane+, titled “Paulo Freire,” which is a biopic about the famous Brazilian educator. This project, co-written by Marcelo Gomes, aims to be as successful as Walter Salles’s critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated film “I’m Still Here.” Filming for this production will take place in Brazil, Chile, and New York next year.

André Ristum’s “Technically Sweet” is another intriguing title, derived from an original screenplay by the renowned Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni. This movie is recognized as the concluding chapter in Antonioni’s “Escape From Civilization” trilogy, which also encompasses the timeless films “Blow Up” and “The Passenger.” Gullane Productions is actively seeking a third nation to finalize the budget for this project.

As a fervent admirer, I’m excited to share that “Milton Bituca Nascimento,” produced by Flavia Moraes for Gullane, marks one of their initial collaborative ventures in production and distribution. This documentary chronicles the journey of one of Brazil’s most celebrated artists, starting from his final tour. The film is now complete and includes insightful interviews with musical legends like Quincy Jones and Spike Lee, among others. In addition to this, another documentary…

Pedro Yytoá’s book, “Ayrton Senna: Pure Racing,” follows the journey of Ayrton Senna as told by Gullane, capitalizing on the success of their Netflix series. This narrative unfolds the story of Senna’s life prior to his Formula 1 career.

Gullane mentions that they’re independently funding a documentary on Senna, which is happening in Brazil. Claro has already signed on as a sponsor, with Lionsgate recently investing funds via Article 3. Preparations for filming are underway, and the team plans to interview everyone who raced against Senna before his rise to Formula 1 stardom in Formula 4. The completed documentary will be produced by Gullane and distributed through their platform, Gullane+.

Gullane Plus is also involved in the revamped adaptation of Jorge Bodanzky’s groundbreaking “Iracema,” which had its world debut at the Berlinale. “We struck a deal with Bodanzky, and we hold three to four of his films under Gullane Plus,” explains Gullane, further mentioning that they aim to release the movie in Brazil during the second half of 2025.

A new title, “3 Obás de Xangô” by director Sérgio Machado, is set to premiere on Brazilian screens via Gullane+. This film focuses on the heartwarming friendship between iconic Brazilians Jorge Amado, Dorival Caymmi, and Carybé. The movie has garnered audience awards at the Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Tiradentes Film Festivals. According to Gullane, the film is highly popular among viewers. It will be released in Brazil following the Cannes Festival, either in June or July.

As a fervent admirer, I’m eagerly anticipating some thrilling updates about Gullane’s television lineup, especially since they’ll be making their debut at Series Mania. Frankly, the team is buzzing with excitement to be in Berlin and kickstart connections via our distribution division. For now, our primary focus lies in establishing a solid foundation for our operation in Brazil. However, given the scope of Gullane+’s influence and the dedication we’ve put into it, it wouldn’t come as a shock if you spot the Gullane+ banner gracing major international festivals within the next year or two.
