It appears that Henry and Hans consistently find themselves in turmoil. Despite making it to the wedding in Semine, Von Bergow fails to appear. To add insult to injury, they instigate a fight that lands them both behind bars. Henry is compelled to labor, whereas Hans is condemned to hanging for his audacious poaching. Naturally, we can’t stand by and let him face such a grim fate. That’s why we will have to intervene during the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 For Whom the Bell Tolls Quest
Once you’ve been freed from prison, your mission involves transporting three bags filled with charcoal to a shed as part of the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” quest. In order to rescue Hans in “KCD2”, you should arrange a meeting with Sir Thomas. However, he resides in a room situated at the tower’s peak. Prior to visiting him, it would be wise to converse with the blacksmith first. He will request that you craft a horseshoe for him.
Near the blacksmith’s workshop, you’ll come across a woman voicing concerns about locks. Speak with Fanka, and she’ll guide you towards the blacksmith. Unfortunately, the blacksmith is too lethargic to lend a hand, but he does mention that there’s a lock pick in a small red jar within the workshop. You’ll find this useful for your upcoming mission. If you wish, you can assist the woman and gather the items inside the nearby chest as well.

How To Get Medicine for Sir Thomas
In the game of For Whom the Bell Tolls, I find myself in a bind because my comrade Sir Thomas is under the weather. To save Hans and complete our quest, I must heal Thomas first. After discussing with his sister, we return to the courtyard. The location of the alchemy table is marked on the map, in another building nearby. However, there’s a pesky guard standing in my way who won’t budge unless fed. To get around this obstacle, I need to slip into the room hidden beneath the wooden staircase. This secret area seems to be filled with bathtubs, but luckily, there are also two dried trout stashed away that should do the trick for our guard-distracting mission.

1. Hand over the trout to the guard and wait for him to depart before making your way up the stairs. Proceed climbing until you spot a red door. Upon finding it, enter the room on your right first. There, you’ll come across Katherine who is attempting to open a chest. She will not disturb you, allowing you to pick the lock on the chest to gather the necessary ingredients for the potion. Don’t forget to take the Physician’s Journal from the shelf on your left. Read it, and you’ll uncover the formula for the fever tonic.
2. Deliver the trout to the guard, then hang back until he departs before scaling the stairs. Keep ascending until you find a red door. Upon discovering it, enter the room on your right initially. Inside, you’ll meet Katherine who is struggling to open a chest. She won’t interfere with your actions, and you can unlock the chest to get the components for the potion. Remember to pick up the Physician’s Journal from the shelf on your left side. Read it, and you’ll reveal the secret recipe for the fever tonic.
3. Pass the trout to the guard, then wait for him to exit before going up the stairs. Carry on going until you locate a red door. Once found, enter the room on your right first. Inside, there’s Katherine who is working on opening a chest. She won’t bother you, enabling you to open the chest and retrieve the potion ingredients. Don’t forget to get the Physician’s Journal from the shelf on your left. Read it, and you’ll unveil the formula for the fever tonic.
4. Transfer the trout to the guard, then wait till he leaves before scaling the stairs. Continue moving up until you stumble upon a red door. Upon discovery, enter the room on your right initially. Inside, Katherine is trying to open a chest. She will not disturb your actions, allowing you to access the chest and get the potion components. Don’t forget to pick up the Physician’s Journal from the shelf on your left. Read it, and you’ll unlock the secret for the fever tonic.
5. Surrender the trout to the guard, then wait till he departs before proceeding up the stairs. Keep advancing until you come across a red door. Upon discovery, enter the room on your right first. Inside, Katherine is engaged in opening a chest. She won’t interfere with your activities, and you can open the chest to obtain the ingredients for the potion. Don’t forget to grab the Physician’s Journal from the shelf on your left. Read it, and you’ll discover the formula for the fever tonic.
How To Brew Fever Tonic
As Sir Thomas is running a high temperature, it’s crucial to bring it down so he can communicate clearly. In the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” quest, here’s a simple method for creating the fever tonic:
1. Collect the necessary ingredients (such as belladonna and mandrake root).
2. Mix these potent herbs together in a mortar and pestle until they form a smooth paste.
3. Add water to the paste, stirring until it becomes a liquid tonic.
4. Administer the tonic to Sir Thomas, hoping that it will lower his temperature and allow him to converse again.
5. Meanwhile, while you’re taking care of Sir Thomas, work on convincing everyone that Hans is indeed noble, thus saving him from execution.
- Pour wine as the base into the cauldron.
- Throw in three handfuls of feverfew.
- Boil the concoction for two turns.
- Grind and throw in one handful of elderberry.
- Throw in two handfuls of ginger.
- Distill the potion and pour it into a phial.
After obtaining the fever remedy, make your way back to Sir Thomas. Regrettably, you’ll encounter guards on your way, but once past them, proceed into his room where a scene will unfold, concluding the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” mission.
