This new update for the first game includes options to customize map icons and text size, Steam timeline markers that show when the background music changes, improved controller support, and other enhancements.
You can now play The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Hi everyone,
Trails Through Daybreak now includes new features to improve image quality and performance, such as temporal anti-aliasing and upscaling. You can find detailed explanations of these improvements in the patch notes for Trails Through Daybreak II.
This update also includes a range of improvements and bug fixes, with noticeable changes to the graphics, how you interact with the game, and overall quality of life.
Graphics & UI
Add DLSS, XeSS and TAA settings
We’ve added a new “Color Precision” setting that can boost rendering speed by slightly reducing color accuracy. This allows you to prioritize performance if needed.
Add a new “HQ postprocessing” setting
Add new setting for map icon and text size
Render expanded map at 100% scale even if the render scale is below 100%
Render 3D UI at 100% scale even if the render scale is below 100%
Use slightly improved shadow sampling for “Everything SGSSAA”
Improve cloud rendering and fix MSAA/SGSSAA integration with cloud rendering
Improve automatic detection of optimization settings on AMD iGPUs and Intel dGPUs
Input
Use SDL2 rather than plain XInput for controller input
This enables automatic controller button prompts, which is now the default
Add support for touchpad as a fully usable button for DualShock/Sense controllers
Add support for L4, R4, L5, R5 as fully usable buttons
If you experience any problems with controller input after this update, you can switch back to the previous system by changing the setting `
` to `true` in the `settings.yaml` file. Let’s add a way to switch between showing the main button prompt and an alternate one for actions that have multiple ways to be triggered. This will help users understand all their options.
The game won’t respond to gamepad controls unless the game window is in focus. You can change this behavior with the ‘allow_input_while_inactive’ setting.
This update significantly boosts performance when dealing with a large stream of raw input, such as from a mouse set to a high polling rate.
Implement mouse wheel zoom for expanded minimap
QoL
Add Steam timeline markers for BGM changes
Add support for source display in BGM info
If the game crashes while Steam is running, give players the option to have Steam check for and fix any corrupted game files.
To prevent interruptions during gameplay, disable any screen savers or automatic screen dimming. You can control this using the `prevent_screen_off` setting.
Load save/load dialog thumbnails asynchronously (improves performance with many saves)
Load the default graphics preset on game start if no settings file is present
Bug Fixes
Fix rendering of some specific crafts at non-100% renderscale (e.g. Elaine’s Sword Ortas)
Fix disappearing minimap icons in specific cases
Fix some enemy targeting issues in Free Look battle camera mode
Minor improvements in EN dialog message when quitting the game from the system menu
Make active voice delays depend on text language rather than voice language
Various fixes to in-game text
Avoid earning the same achievement repeatedly. While it didn’t break the game, doing so could slow things down.
Fix camera control with camp/equip/costume menu open
Don’t allow NewGame+ after loading an auto-save without actually having clear saves
Fix minor PCSS sampling artifacts
Fix depth issues with Transparency AA
Fix mesh part draw order (Elaine’s bracer costume)
Ignore save folders with the wrong naming scheme
Fix title screen idle movie playback
Fix potential resource leak when reloading models after changing the water rendering setting
No longer display the BGM information for “pinch” battle music every turn when in the pinch state
Fix loss of background blur in settings menu upon changing some graphics settings
Fix SSR initialization with High/Ultra setting
If you run into any unexpected issues with this update, you can easily switch back to a previous version of the game using the “Beta” option in Steam.
