The creator of Fortune’s Run has announced that the production of their classic first-person shooter game will be halted, due to a court sentence that requires them to serve a three-year prison term.

Fortune’s Run, a game reminiscent of Doom and Quake in the FPS genre, has amassed a dedicated fanbase on Steam. Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback on Valve’s platform, the sole developer shared that they must temporarily halt work on the project due to an upcoming three-year prison sentence.

Through the game’s main Steam community forum, the lone developer, recognized as Dizzie, has shared that they will halt the development of Fortune’s Run while they are away serving a prison sentence.

Fortune’s Run dev sentenced to prison

For the upcoming three years, I will be serving my prison sentence. Though it’s a complex tale, prior to becoming a game developer, I led an entirely distinct life that was far from thriving. My current predicament stems from five years ago, and throughout this period, I have been navigating the legal process while dedicating myself to my work as a game developer.

Although the main programmer didn’t elaborate on the specific charges she was convicted of, it was mentioned by Dizzie that she will be leaving the project in February.

After being officially convicted and receiving my sentence, I’ll be leaving next month. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the result of choices I made. Regrettably, I was a person with a high level of violence in my past, causing harm to many individuals throughout my life. Sadly, the punishment won’t rectify the pain inflicted, but perhaps we all understand that.

Additionally, it came to light that the team member responsible for Quality Assurance (QA) and several game levels has departed from the project. Dizzie mentioned they are no longer part of this specific case, but have simply lost enthusiasm for video game development. Regarding the current status of the game, the sole developer comments that there isn’t much content remaining to be developed.

Nevertheless, for those curious about Fortune’s Run, here’s an update: “I realize that some of you will feel upset and let down, but please grasp that I have no control over the situation,” Dizzie clarified. “The events surrounding this game were set in motion before I even began working on it, and it’s been gradually spiraling out of control ever since.

I’ve got a deep-seated enthusiasm for creating games, and I have no plans on slowing down. I’m working hard to complete this current project, but the future is uncertain. Regardless, I’ll give it my all because I’m so invested in this game and eager to see it through. Honestly, I just can’t wait to finish it. Let’s get this game done, Dizzie!

To put an end to any rumors, Dizzie appended a comment to the post clarifying that their conviction wasn’t due to a sexual crime, but declined to disclose the nature of the offense they were imprisoned for.
