This compilation seems like an outstanding opportunity to delve into two seminal RPGs from the 16-bit and 32-bit gaming periods. The inaugural Lunar: Silver Star Story is renowned as a cornerstone title in the Japanese RPG legacy, marking one of the earliest console RPGs to incorporate voice acting, animated sequences, and CD-quality audio, owing to its initial release on the Sega CD. A remastered version, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, was subsequently produced for PS1 and Sega Saturn, which is the incarnation featured in the Lunar Remastered Collection. Its successor, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, debuted on both PS1 and Saturn, expanding upon the gameplay and narrative presentation of the first installment with additional voiced dialogue and a larger roster of characters.
In video games today, features such as voice acting, cinematic scenes, and superior soundtracks are standard elements. However, back then, these aspects were revolutionary, though their voice performances and localized English scripts gained notoriety for inconsistency. But in this Remastered Collection, both games come with all-new English dialogue and voiceovers. Although the original voiceovers have been replaced, the Lunar Remastered collection offers an option to play with Japanese voice acting instead. Additionally, you can toggle between the updated graphics or the original PS1 visuals for both games.
Besides Lunar, another beloved RPG series is receiving long-awaited makeovers this year. Suikoden 1 and 2 by Konami will be back through the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster, set to launch, and Tales of Graces f, a popular classic, is returning with a remaster on both consoles and PC on January 17th. Pre-orders are now available.
