Next month marks the 25th anniversary of The Sims, and as anticipated, Electronic Arts (EA) has plenty of events, upgrades, and fresh content in store for the festivities. However, something players didn’t foresee was the unexpected update EA recently rolled out for The Sims 3.

The recent update rectifies a problem that prevented newer Intel processors from running The Sims 3. Now, it’s simpler to play the game on contemporary devices. Despite Electronic Arts not officially announcing anything about this update, some players are optimistic, speculating that it could indicate further updates for The Sims 3 might be coming in the future.

It’s challenging to confirm whether or not EA has released an update for The Sims 3, as they haven’t publicly admitted to doing so. However, if there are no more plans for additional content from EA, fans and modders alike are still excited about the fresh energy the potential update brings to the game.

“So it begins,” Sims modder SimMattically tweeted after discovering the update.

Previously, The Sims 3 was last updated in November 2015. It’s plausible that the recent update was merely intended to keep players purchasing the game. Yet, enthusiasts who lament the lack of intricate customization features (which are still scarce in The Sims 4) welcome this update, despite it not necessarily hinting at more Sims 3 content in the future.

In its prime, The Sims 3 often faced difficulties in running smoothly on powerful computers, due to frequent crashes and glitches. However, players adored the feature that enabled them to customize their Sims’ hair, clothes, nails, and furniture by selecting any color using the game’s built-in color wheel. This feature is scarcely available in The Sims 4, limited only to coloring a pet’s fur; it cannot be used for Sims’ hair, clothes, furniture, walls, or flooring. For years, players of The Sims 4 have expressed disappointment over the game’s limited customization options. Now that contemporary computers can run The Sims 3 more smoothly without crashing, an update has been introduced, allowing nostalgic fans to revisit the golden era when Sims (and their homes) could be colored in any hue of the rainbow.

It’s uncertain whether Electronic Arts (EA) will provide additional updates for The Sims 3, but if they do, it’ll mainly focus on enhancing stability instead of introducing new content. Nevertheless, the joy of opening an old save file and personalizing your Sims as you please remains a noteworthy experience, although this update might not be directly tied to The Sims’ 25th anniversary celebration.
