Today, January 14th, the official Walmart Canada Gaming account shared an iconic image featuring Mario hiding behind a drape. The caption read playfully, “Hey, Mario,” accompanied by a waving-hand emoji. It’s quite apparent that Walmart Canada is hinting at the speculation surrounding an upcoming reveal of the Switch 2.
It’s worth mentioning that Walmart Canada often reveals significant news prematurely by publishing product pages before the official announcements. At this point in time, they haven’t disclosed any details regarding the Switch 2.

At that time, Nintendo of America employed it to build anticipation for their upcoming console, then codenamed “NX,” later known as the Switch. This image was intended to hint at the unveiling of the new device. It swiftly turned into a meme and some people found it slightly unsettling. However, former Nintendo employees have since shared that Nintendo acknowledged the reaction and promised they wouldn’t repeat such a move in the future.
2018 saw several game releases unintentionally disclosed by Walmart Canada, with Rage 2 being the first among them. This early reveal during E3 2018 led to Bethesda publicly addressing the retailer in their comments. Additionally, Walmart Canada also accidentally revealed Borderlands 3, Gears 5, Just Cause 4, and other titles in the same year.
The gaming account for Walmart Canada is managed by Riley Little. In a blog post from 2022, he shared that higher-ups suggested an improvement in Walmart Canada’s communication with gamers. Inspired by this, Little decided to make the account more engaging and entertaining for its audience. To accomplish this goal, he began posting various memes, along with news updates and product announcements, all aimed at encouraging people to shop at Walmart.
In contrast to the past, leaks about video games from Walmart Canada have become less frequent. This is because game developers and publishers usually prefer to keep their unreleased information confidential. However, it’s surprising yet possible that Walmart Canada might disclose some legitimate details about the Switch 2. Nevertheless, other than Walmart Canada, there has been a flood of leaks about the Switch on the internet.
Should the gossip hold true, it’s plausible that Nintendo may unveil the successor to the Switch – tentatively named Switch 2 – on Thursday, 16th of January. If this happens, the new console is projected to hit the shelves sometime between May and June.
