In Street Fighter 6, fans will see the debut of characters from Fatal Fury like Mai Shiranui in Capcom’s primary series for the first time. However, it’s not their initial confrontation; they squared off way back in Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 and again in SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos in 2003. Now, after a long hiatus, Street Fighter 6’s first gameplay trailer introduces the highly anticipated face-off between Mai Shiranui and her rival, Chun Li.

In her repertoire, many of Mai’s traditional techniques persist, yet she appears to have enhanced mastery over her fire-enhanced moves. Here, Mai demonstrates such immense power that she effortlessly outmatches both Chun Li and Ryu when fully unleashing her strength. To add to her iconic red outfit, Mai now sports a new wardrobe as well.

In the sneak peek from Mai’s game trailer last month, her Fatal Fury stage appears to have undergone an upgrade for this particular game. Despite Masahiro Sakurai believing that incorporating Mai into Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was not fitting, she has had a past appearance in Namco’s Dead or Alive 6.

Capcom has not given a specific release date for when Mai will join Street Fighter 6, only stating that it’s likely to arrive during the winter of 2025. Previously, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury was introduced in Street Fighter 6 last year. Both characters, Terry and Mai, are also scheduled to reappear in Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves, which is set for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on April 25, 2025.
