Twenty years ago, a movie centered around the Fantastic Four was being developed. Leading this venture was Sean Astin, recognized by many from his work on The Lord of the Rings. Astin revealed that he had envisioned Cameron Diaz for one of the main roles in his project. His plan was to cast her as Sue Storm, also known as The Invisible Woman, and presented this idea directly to her.

Diaz’s response, surprisingly, wasn’t what Astin was hoping for. Instead, she rejected his proposition and offered an unusual explanation, stating that she needed to devote excessive time to cosmetics.

In contrast, Marvel fans who know Sue Storm from the Fantastic Four might find it puzzling as her portrayal doesn’t involve extensive makeup because she appears as an ordinary person or becomes invisible. Unlike other superheroes, there’s no need for transformative characterization that alters the actor’s appearance to play her.

Sean Astin talked about his work on Fantastic Four during an interview with Collider.

I attempted to persuade Cameron Diaz to portray Sue Storm. However, she questioned the duration of the makeup process and I responded by mentioning it would be for an extended period. She then expressed her unwillingness to comply with this requirement.

Astin was unable to secure Diaz for the project, and it ultimately remained unfinished. Subsequently, Tim Story took over the production of a Fantastic Four film, with Jessica Alba portraying Sue Storm. This film premiered in theaters in 2005.
