Dogwoof has obtained international distribution rights for “2000 Meters in Andriivka,” a film by Ukrainian director and Pulitzer Prize-winning AP journalist Mstyslav Chernov, who won an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2024 with “20 Days in Mariupol.” The film will make its world debut on January 23 at the Sundance Film Festival as part of the World Cinema Documentary Competition.

At the Sundance Film Festival, Dogwoof plans to introduce the film for global distribution. In North America, the documentary will be handled by PBS Distribution. This collaboration with Chernov, who works on “Frontline” for PBS and the Associated Press, is Dogwoof’s second, following their work together on “20 Days in Mariupol.

In “2000 Meters to Andriivka,” Chernov delves into the lives of Ukrainian soldiers, providing a raw portrayal of their origins, identities, and the excruciating choices they must make while battling for each piece of ground in their frontline. This work provides a complementary perspective to “20 Days in Mariupol,” offering insights into the human aspect of Ukraine’s defense during its conflict with Russia.

In 2023, during a faltering counterattack, Chernov and his Associated Press partner Alex Babenko accompanied a Ukrainian platoon as they made their way for over a mile through a heavily fortified forest on their quest to free the small, Russian-occupied village of Andriivka. However, as the film “2000 Meters to Andriivka” unfolds, it becomes increasingly clear to these soldiers that this conflict might have no end in sight, as they journey deeper into their devastated homeland.

As a passionate admirer, I’d express it like this:

“I’ve had the privilege of witnessing Chernov’s masterful work, ‘2000 Meters to Andriivka.’ This gripping documentary, pieced together from Ukrainian Army bodycam footage and personal reflections, offers a deeply moving perspective on the ongoing conflict in my homeland.

This battle, a microcosm of the broader Russian-Ukraine War – the most significant military operation Europe has seen since World War II – provides a chilling glimpse into modern warfare that eerily mirrors battles fought nearly a century ago.

Mstyslav Chernov, Dogwoof’s chief content officer stated: “Following the widespread praise for ’20 Days in Mariupol,’ Mstyslav has not only proven himself as a brave frontline journalist but has surpassed expectations by creating an exceptionally engaging and cinematic piece that portrays the heart-wrenching desperation of war from the perspectives of those on the battlefield. We’re thrilled to be collaborating once more with PBS ‘Frontline’ and the Associated Press to share this extraordinary film with viewers worldwide.

As a dedicated movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Dogwoof once more, this time to share a powerful piece of eyewitness journalism with audiences worldwide. The film ‘2000 Meters to Andriivka’ offers an uncompromising perspective on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, providing a stark and compelling portrayal of the harsh realities unfolding on the ground.
