In 2024, Sukumar’s movie “Pushpa 2: The Rule” became the highest-earning film of the year, pulling in a total of $162.9 million across all language versions. Its Hindi-dubbed version specifically brought in an impressive $103.2 million. Nag Ashwin’s “Kalki 2898 AD,” a grand science fiction film, came in second with earnings of $90 million. These figures represent the domestic box office collections in India and do not include worldwide revenues.
In the past year, Hindi cinema struggled significantly, making up only 40% of the overall box office earnings, which amounted to $543 million – a decline from holding a 44% share in the previous year. It’s worth mentioning that about one-third (31%) of Hindi’s total revenue was generated by dubbed adaptations of films produced in the Southern regions of India. The earnings from original Hindi-language productions saw a substantial drop of 37%.
