For nearly two decades, devoted Metroid enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The sequel was first announced in June 2017, and soon after, it became possible to preorder it on Amazon. Despite the game’s lengthy development process, those early preorders remained valid. However, even following last summer’s re-introduction of Metroid Prime 4, Amazon is now canceling these long-standing preorders.

It seems more likely that Amazon made an error rather than a serious issue like further delay or cancellation of Metroid Prime 4. TopMob has contacted Nintendo for clarification. One staff member at TopMob mentioned that his six-year-old preorder for Metroid Prime 4, originally priced at $48, was among the orders canceled today.

Since the original announcement in 2017, Nintendo has given updates on Metroid Prime 4, with a significant change happening in 2019 when it was disclosed that the previous development had been scrapped and instead, Retro Studios, who developed the Metroid Prime trilogy, would start from scratch. During this time period, a separate game titled Metroid Dread and a revamped version of Metroid Prime were released for the Nintendo Switch. It’s also been reported that both Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are in development for remastering on the Switch as well.

In addition to the other games, Samus Aran, the main character of Metroid, consistently appears in the Super Smash Bros. series. To keep up with her ongoing story within the Metroid universe, it would be beneficial to revisit the events that have unfolded in the Metroid Prime games thus far. Nintendo has confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set for release in 2025, although an exact date hasn’t been given yet.
