Mandy Moore is among numerous celebrities who’ve suffered the loss of their homes due to the L.A. fires. On her Instagram account, she’s been chronicling this unfortunate event, and in doing so, she promoted a GoFundMe page for her in-laws whose residence was also destroyed by the fire. The fundraising campaign initially aimed to collect $60,000 but has since garnered over $176,000 and continues to grow.
Yesterday, Griff & Kit, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, unfortunately lost their home and all their possessions in the Eaton Fire. As they are expecting their first child within a few weeks, they need our support now more than ever. Griff is a touring musician who also lost his entire collection of drums and percussion equipment that he uses for his livelihood. This is a difficult time for them. Many have asked how to help during this challenging period…Please consider donating and sharing to aid them in rebuilding their home.
After Moore decided to publicize her GoFundMe campaign, critics argued that the actress from “This Is Us” should simply use her own wealth, estimated at $14 million, to aid her in-laws instead of seeking external help. This sparked a wave of comments on social media, with users pointing out her substantial net worth as evidence for their claims. Moore responded to this criticism in the caption of her post.
As a movie critic, I’d rephrase it like this: “It’s bewildering when folks doubt our sincerity in assisting our own kin or blindly following a suggested donation amount from Google. Rest assured, we are helping out. Our friend Matt initiated a GoFundMe campaign and I’m spreading the word because people have asked how they can lend a hand to us too – as we’ve also suffered a tragic fire loss. So, kindly mind your own business. Nobody is compelling you to act.
Many celebrities, including Moore, suffered the loss of their homes in the L.A. fires. Others who experienced this unfortunate event include Billy Crystal, Miles Teller, Paris Hilton, Jeff Bridges, and more. Additionally, Moore’s longtime “This Is Us” co-star Milo Ventimiglia also lost his property in the blaze.
Ventimiglia said to CBS News, choking back tears, ‘It’s so heavy.’ Memories from various rooms in the house flood your mind, but when you see the damaged homes of your neighbors and the surrounding area, your heart simply shatters.
As a fellow movie enthusiast deeply saddened by the LA fires, let me share a helpful tip: If you’re seeking means to support our community during these challenging times, head over to the Eaton Fire Community Relief page. Let’s come together and make a difference!
