Once more, a previous guest of Joe Rogan has dethroned him from the number one position on Spotify’s podcast rankings.

Occasionally, another podcast will climb up the rankings on Spotify and temporarily unseat The Joe Rogan Experience from its number one spot.

Over the years, there have been numerous instances of this occurrence. Occasionally, Rogan finds himself in a predicament where he is caught by his own actions, similar to being caught by one’s own explosive device, when a past guest leverages their newfound popularity to gain an advantage.

Previously, incidents like these occurred with ex-Fox News Anchor Tucker Carlson in July 2024 and later with former CIA Contractor Shawn Ryan in October. Now, it appears that Ryan is aiming to take over Rogan’s position again.

Joe Rogan dethroned as top Spotify podcast by ex-Navy SEALs

On the 6th of January, Monday, Shawn Ryan posted the 156th installment of his podcast called ‘A SEAL Team 6 Sniper’s Most Troublesome Dream,’ with Chris Fettes as its guest.

Similar to Ryan, Fettes also has a past as a Navy SEAL, serving for 13 years with SEAL Team 10. Before retiring and founding his own ice cream business, Be Free Ice Cream, Fettes had experienced active combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The episode is extraordinarily long, stretching out for a full 5 hours and 19 minutes, surpassing the extended runtime of any Lord of the Rings film.

In spite of its duration exceeding five hours, as reported by The Podcast Charts, this particular episode catapulted Shawn Ryan’s show to the number one position in the US, surpassing Joe Rogan’s podcast and leading the overall rankings.

It remains to be seen how long Ryan will maintain his leading position, since Rogan responded on January 8 by airing a new JRE episode, during which he welcomed comedian Theo Von as a guest.

It’s worth mentioning that Rogan can distribute his Spotify episodes on other platforms as well. Given that his fanbase is divided between YouTube and Apple Podcasts, it makes it slightly simpler for competitors to surpass him in popularity.
