In terms of authenticity and realism, Kingdom Come: Deliverance stands out not only in its gameplay and narrative but also in its map. The original game painstakingly recreated a region from the 15th century Bohemia, and it appears that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will follow suit.
In addition to the wild, medieval landscapes and quaint villages, the upcoming RPG sequel will also feature Kuttenberg, a significant city from 15th-century Bohemia, which is known today as Kuta Hora in the Czech Republic.
In King’s Crown II, what’s the scale of the game map? Here, we’ll explore the details about its dimensions based on available information and initial impressions.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 map size
The map for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 approximately doubles the territory covered in the original game. However, instead of one expansive map, it’s divided into two separate maps, each as large as the initial game.
In the initial game, the region encompassing cities like Rattay and Sasau measured approximately 16 square kilometers. This size is comparable to both Velen and Novigrad in The Witcher 3. However, unlike those locations, this entire area was freely accessible without any water or off-limits zones hindering exploration.
The game’s narrative primarily focuses on two key locations: Kuttenberg, a city, and the area around Trosky Castle in the countryside. Initially, you’ll explore Trosky Castle, and later in the storyline, you’ll visit Kuttenberg. It’s important to mention that during a developer livestream on November 20, 2024, Warhorse’s PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling stated (at around 33 minutes and 49 seconds) that the Trosky map is smaller compared to the other area.
In addition, you’ll find that you can’t return to the initial map for reference, but instead, you’re limited to discovering Kuttenberg and its surrounding areas.
Kuttenberg map
We have a clear image of the Kuttenberg map, and it’s quite extensive. This completely developed city encompasses not only the fortified city itself, but also the homes and agricultural areas that lie beyond its walls.
In the initial game, Rattay is the largest region, and interestingly, it could be contained within Kuttenberg more than ten times. The developers have indicated that it’s approximately ten times bigger.
There could be additional villages, hamlets, and points of interest hidden beyond what’s shown on this map, making further exploration a possibility.
Trosky map
So far, we’ve only had a glimpse of the Trosky map, but what we do know is that it portrays a rural setting with vast forests and agricultural areas.
During the live stream on November 20th, we got a sneak peek at part of the map. However, most of it remained unexplored, hidden beneath thick layers of clouds.
In the exciting gameplay demonstration I’ve witnessed, there was a quaint little village called Bylany. From what I gather, it seems quite petite and may merely represent a small fraction of the entire game map.
Although Map Trosky is expected to be smaller compared to the other map, the total area covered by both maps is approximately twice as large as the initial game. Consequently, it’s not surprising that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) will be expansive, with its script length even surpassing Baldur’s Gate 3 and demanding robust PC specifications.
In February, there are plenty of exciting new releases on the horizon, such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Monster Hunter Wilds, both offering expansive open-world environments. Contrastingly, Obsidian’s Avowed will offer smaller maps instead of a single massive gameplay area.
