On a Wednesday evening at Tao Downtown in Manhattan, Adrien Brody wept as he received the best actor award from the New York Film Critics Circle, expressing his emotions for the victims of the Los Angeles fires.
Brody expressed his deep sympathy for all the affected families, animals, and colleagues, after winning an award for his role as László Tóth in “The Brutalist.” He noted that many homes on the Pacific Coast Highway’s west side, particularly those near the beach, have been devastated. This area is a part of our community, so he wanted to express gratitude and admiration towards the courage of the first responders, acknowledging their selfless acts and significant work that deserves appreciation tonight.
Despite Brody showing the strongest emotional reaction to the fires, both David Sims and Sean Baker – winners of the best screenplay award for “Anora” – expressed their sympathies toward the people of Los Angeles as well.
Though Brody displayed the greatest emotion in response to the fires, David Sims and Sean Baker, who received the best screenplay award for “Anora”, also made it clear they were thinking about the citizens of Los Angeles.

Brody’s emotional response to the fires was unparalleled, but both David Sims and Sean Baker, victors of the best screenplay prize for “Anora,” also expressed their concern for the people of Los Angeles.
In his acceptance speech for the best film award, director Corbet expressed encouragement for Los Angeles. He mentioned that his home in New York had been destroyed by fire a few years prior to him shooting the 2018 movie “Vox Lux”.
In my acceptance speech earlier, I made sure to give a shout-out to my “Brutalist” co-star, Guy Pearce, acknowledging the intense and challenging experience we shared on set.
Brody expressed his enjoyment of working alongside him daily and mentioned the film, but for those who haven’t seen it yet, Guy portrayed Van Buren with an intricate depth. Brody added that without Guy’s exceptional acting, he wouldn’t be here tonight.
Beginning January 7, a series of fiery blazes erupted throughout greater Los Angeles after a powerful wind storm, with the most intense ones occurring in Pacific Palisades and Eaton Canyon. Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, yet another fire ignited in the Hollywood Hills, prompting popular Los Angeles landmarks such as the TLC Chinese Theater and the Magic Castle to close temporarily.
