❗️CAUTION: This content reveals plot points from “The End of An Era, Part 2,” the January 8th finale of “The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras” that aired on MTV.
(This version aims to be more conversational and less formal than the original.)
For one “Challenge” competitor, “Karma’s a relaxing thought.” And for another, it’s the opposite.
In the final episode of “Battle of the Eras” on Wednesday, it turned out that the karma votes held more influence over the game’s outcome than many viewers initially thought. Each participant was allowed to assign 1-5 points to their fellow players before they were eliminated, and these votes proved to be quite significant.
Following the first segment of the grand finale, it was predictable that part two would involve considerable swimming… as well as a significant amount of Jordan Wiseley claiming victories. In truth, Jordan triumphed in six separate individual contests throughout the series, never faced elimination, and emerged victorious at every checkpoint during the final round.
Or:
After the initial part of the finale, it wasn’t a shock that part two was filled with swimming… and numerous triumphs by Jordan Wiseley. In actuality, Jordan won six individual competitions throughout the season, never had to face elimination, and claimed victory at every checkpoint in the final round.
Following a long night spent tallying coins and serenading, the team commenced day two with another challenge involving swimming and rowing. This phase was primarily led by Jenny West and Jordan, as it encompassed additional water-based activities. The second stage of challenges involved swimming out to a sandbar, where they were required to engage in a friendly competition answering mathematical problems together.
Jenny and Jordan triumphed yet again. Michelle Fitzgerald faced numerous challenges solving an equation and ended up as the sole female contestant on the island. In the end, Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio showed up, allowing her to outperform him. He then placed last among the men because Kyland Young bested him in mathematics. As for Michelle, although she ranked behind Rachel Robinson and Tori Deal, she managed to overtake both during their swim back to the boat. In the end, Tori and Bananas finished in last place.
Previously, the competitors swam towards an underwater scooter as their final checkpoint. After acquiring the scooters, they were tasked with utilizing them to swim around and gather tokens. The first duo to accomplish this challenge were Michele and Rachel, not necessarily the first two females but rather the first two players overall. Following them, Tori and Jenny crossed the finish line for the women. Jordan led the men’s race once more, with Bananas, Kyland, and Derek Chavez finishing behind him in that order.
In the race I followed, here’s how the scoring was structured: For each checkpoint, the first-place finisher earned four points, second place got three points, third place took home two points, while those finishing last received a single point. It’s also important to note that Karma votes were equivalent to two checkpoints in value.
At the conclusion of the competition, it came as no shock that Jordan emerged victorious, claiming his fifth title and a grand prize of $400,000. Derek secured second place, pocketing $75,000, while Bananas took third with a $25,000 reward. Unfortunately, Kyland ended up in last place.
In this summary, we’ve outlined each key aspect, including the karma scores; however, for male participants, additional karma votes did not affect the eventual victor.
In this game, the karma votes significantly impacted the final standings for the female contestants. Rachel and Jenny ended up sharing the top spot, as Rachel jumped from third to first due to the karma points. They divided the grand prize of $400,000 between them. Interestingly, Michele moved down from second place to third after the karma votes (she was just one point away from Rachel and Jenny!), earning herself a $25,000 prize. Unfortunately, Tori finished in fourth place, leaving empty-handed.
Jenny has a total of 24 points, with 22 coming from checkpoints and the remaining 2 as karma points.
Rachel has a total of 24 points too, but she got 16 from checkpoints and 8 as karma points.
Michele accumulated 23 points, with 19 of them from checkpoints and only 4 as karma points.
Lastly, Tori has a total of 19 points, where 13 were earned at checkpoints and the rest 6 came as karma points.
