Roker is set to play a pivotal part in an upcoming app from “Today”, dubbed “Start Today”. This innovative application offers users advice on wellness, encompassing areas like exercise, nutrition, and beyond. Last year saw a soft launch for this app, allowing some enthusiasts to participate in beta-testing. Now, NBC plans to intensify promotional efforts for it, aiming to transform “Today”, a television staple of the morning for seven decades, into something that is more deeply integrated with daily routines and activities.
The venture aims to separate “Today” from its typical group of rivals – it competes daily with shows like ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “CBS Mornings”, as well as other morning TV programs. Instead, it will now face numerous digital platforms focusing on wellness. As Libby Leist, NBC News executive vice president who manages “Today,” explains, “We believe we can offer a holistic approach by saying, ‘If you’re seeking fitness, nutrition, motivation, we provide it all in one location – and with trusted experts to deliver it to you.
Leist mentions that the application needs a recurring payment plan either monthly or yearly, and there’s a temporary reduced price deal available for some time.
Today seems to be heading towards a destination that many news competitors are eagerly anticipating visiting in the near future. Under the leadership of current CEO Mark Thompson, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CNN has expressed a commitment to constructing a novel digital operation catering to various interests such as wellness. It is anticipated that they will reveal more information about this project in 2025.

He emphasizes the strong foundation we have built, based on trust and authority. This, in my opinion, is something difficult to mimic, and it seems both our devoted viewers and rival productions are starting to acknowledge this unique quality.

On the app, Roker assumes the role of a motivational leader, a position that seems fitting given his organic connection to the topic. His viewers have witnessed his daily 5-mile walks, a regimen recommended by his doctor. As he shares his journey, he notes, “I began posting about it and it simply took off.
He believes that “Today” resonates with a wide range of potential viewers. Referring to Vince Vaughn in ‘Dodgeball’, he says, giving a nod, “It’s kind of like those underdogs who outsmart the elites in the movie.” He continues, “Many of these apps are filled with perfectly sculpted individuals who seemingly don’t struggle with weight or diet or life.” He adds, “What sets ours apart is that it caters to ‘normal’ people. There’s no stigma, no judgment. We’re all in this together, working towards a solution.
Even so, by plunging more readily into digital media, “Today” is probably in for a workout.
