Demi Moore is soaring with pride following her 2025 Golden Globe victory. However, one might wonder about the implications for the future of Landman in light of this achievement.
Taylor Sheridan’s two-month spectacle is drawing to a close. In November, Lioness Season 2, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, and Landman all made their debut. As the final episode of Landman airs this week, we’ll have to hold on until February for the return of 1923 Season 2, bringing more action from Taylor Sheridan.
This year, one of Landman’s most captivating projects has been the new original series, “Billy Bob Thornton’s Vehicle.” Set against the intense backdrop of the oil industry, this series piqued the interest of Sheridan fans, with both positive and negative reasons. (The shocking Ainsley scene in Episode 1 will forever linger in our minds.)
However, it was pointed out by viewers that Demi Moore’s character, Cami, the wife of tycoon Monty Miller, was noticeably absent for much of the season. She made only a few brief appearances. Yet, Demi Moore is a Golden Globe winner for her role in The Substance, and there are predictions of an Oscar win for her. This significantly alters the dynamics of the show.
Demi Moore’s Cami could become a second lead
It’s well-known that Moore wasn’t given much opportunity in Landman, which prompted weekly comments from fans who noticed her brief on-screen appearances and wondered about the reasoning behind her initial casting.
It wasn’t until episode 9, with its hints about Monty’s demise, that the long-standing Cami fan hypothesis gained traction and seemed more plausible.
According to this theory, it was widely thought that Monty would pass away during Season 1 (his heart attack had been subtly foreshadowed), paving the way for Cami to assume his business duties. In this scenario, she would become Tommy’s superior.
It was a smart move to sign up Demi Moore, keeping her role as a secret lead until the unexpected death of Jon Hamm’s character, Monty.
Given that Moore is receiving increasing recognition for The Substance, Sheridan might find it difficult to resist making her a more significant character. As Moore’s fanbase grows, they may become drawn to the show, expanding its viewer base – however, this depends on effectively highlighting Moore as one of the main characters.
Yet, while Moore’s ascension within Hollywood might lead to a different scenario, it could potentially leave Landman in a state of confusion or chaos.
While Moore’s Hollywood advancement may result in an unexpected turn of events for Landman, it could also create a chaotic situation.
Landman could suffer the same fate as Yellowstone
It’d be fantastic if Cami gets a bigger part in Landman in future productions, but if Moore continues to excel, it might actually lead to Cami having less screen time instead.
Although Landman Season 2 hasn’t officially been given the go-ahead, the cast is hopeful that filming will commence sometime in 2022. Even actress Moore herself expressed her excitement back in 2024 (as reported by Deadline), stating that they would begin the second season at the start of the following year.
However, the situation has evolved significantly from that time, particularly regarding Moore’s professional standing. By 2025, it’s expected that her popularity will surge, making her roles more sought-after. This could lead to her reducing her involvement in Landman or even deciding to move on entirely.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice the potential parallel between Sheridan’s Landman plan and the departure of a main character, much like Kevin Costner’s exit from Yellowstone. If Cami takes the reins in Season 2, it might lead to a conundrum that echoes the challenges faced when a beloved character steps down.

When the series focuses heavily on a particular character’s development, its appeal weakens significantly if that character is suddenly absent. Unfortunately, this was the case in the last season of Yellowstone, leaving numerous viewers convinced that the decline in quality could be attributed to the absence of Kevin Costner’s storyline.
Even though Landman is just starting out and may evolve into something different altogether, it’s unfortunate that we might let go of Moore so soon – particularly since she didn’t have an opportunity to fully demonstrate her abilities in the beginning.
