The ‘Eye of Rah’ meme has been spreading rapidly across TikTok and various online social networks. In case you haven’t heard, here’s a rundown on what it’s all about.
The ‘Eye of Rah,’ or the Eye of Ra, refers to a popular TikTok meme starring user Rashad Bowens (lilbotheme). This meme features an edited image where he has one large, cyclopean eye and his distinctive red dreadlocks. It began circulating widely in early January 2025, as it combined humorous alterations with other trending internet jokes.
Bowens, recognized for his quick-response sewing and striking red hair that often stands tall, gained prominence as the icon for “The Eye of Rah” following TikTok user Jeremiah Springfield’s initial edit creation.
Drawing inspiration from the recent Hood Cryptid craze, Springfield creatively modified a well-known Bowen video. They transformed him by adding a single eye and styling his hair in a fiery manner.
Origins of the ‘Eye of Rah’ meme
This trend originated in December 2022 when Bowens shared a well-known video clip on TikTok. In the video, he unexpectedly interjects while a man is salting a cucumber, saying, “Hey, calm down, buddy!” The phrase he used was “Ay, yo, chill the f**k out, yo!”. This video received over 597,700 views and 66,500 likes on TikTok.
On November 26, 2024, Jeremiah Springfield shared an updated version of this video, incorporating a cyclopean eye and a single red dreadlock that stood vertically. This modification gained popularity, amassing over 1.8 million views and 292,000 likes.
Not long after, TikTok user zketchum made a remark titled “Eye of Ra” on the video, a clever reference to the legendary Curse of Ra. This comment garnered more than 21,000 likes, thereby solidifying the name.
Over time, as the meme started to spread like wildfire, it morphed into more and more absurdly funny iterations. For example, on December 22nd, Instagram user skaxta shared a hilarious rendition, where Bowens was transformed into a cyclops with fiery CapCut enhancements. This post gathered an incredible 451,100 likes!
Starting from early 2025, my favorite internet sensation, “The Eye of Rah,” started blending with other popular online crazes such as the “I Bought a House in Egypt” and “Chopped Chin” phenomena. This fusion led to an explosion of comical, mind-boggling content that had me in stitches!
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but share one trend that’s been blowing up recently. On January 4th, TikToker .bob911_ cleverly merged three hot topics together, resulting in an impressive view count of over 2.4 million!
As a dedicated follower, I’ve noticed that the ‘Eye of Rah’ meme is still captivating the hearts of internet users everywhere. Despite some puzzlement over its viral fame, this meme continues to dominate on TikTok, Instagram, and various other platforms, with countless posts garnering millions of views.
One popular trend currently growing on TikTok includes the “I’ve played these games before” Squid Game meme and the ‘acting like I got accepted to Harvard’ fad.
