As a dedicated cinema-goer and wrestling enthusiast, I must acknowledge that Hulk Hogan holds an iconic status in the world of WWE spanning over seven decades. However, when he made his debut at Netflix’s “Monday Night Raw” on January 6, the response wasn’t exactly warm.
At approximately two and a half hours into the performance, there were whispers that Hogan would make an appearance, and indeed he did, striding into the arena to the familiar melody of “Real American,” his signature walk-out track. Accompanied by Jimmy Heart, Hogan was met with a chorus of boos from the audience as he took the opportunity to promote his Real American Beer brand and offer his congratulations to the WWE for their partnership with the streaming giant.
Previously, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside a variety of impressive partners throughout my career. Among them were legends like Randy Savage, whose partnership was nothing short of incredible. Then there was Andre the Giant, a partner who towered over most. But tonight, we are not just partners; we are creating history together. In essence, the WWE has formed its ultimate tag team with none other than Netflix, a partnership that I believe will go down as the greatest in WWE’s annals.
As a supporter, I found it utterly astonishing to witness Hulk Hogan receive a barrage of boos as he attempted to peddle his knockoff Bud Light brew. It was nothing short of incredible! Funny thing is, I used to be a die-hard Hulkamaniac growing up.
Since his prominent days in the early ’80s, Hogan (whose real name is Terry Bollea) has been shunned within the WWE community due to various controversies. The first issue arose when a 2007 tape surfaced containing him using a racial slur, leading the WWE to remove him from their Hall of Fame in 2015. However, they reinstated him in 2018. Since then, Hogan has further complicated matters by openly endorsing President-elect Donald Trump.
At “Monday Night Raw,” it wasn’t just Hogan who graced the stage as a WWE legend; Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson kicked off the event, and later returned alongside his cousin Roman Reigns following their victory against Solo Sikoa. John Cena made an appearance to inaugurate his 2025 retirement tour and announced his participation in the 2025 Royal Rumble. The Undertaker also appeared to congratulate Rhea Ripley on her championship victory over Liv Morgan, and each of these legends received a round of applause.
Speaking about the additional matches from Monday evening, Jey Uso emerged victorious against Drew McIntyre, while CM Punk successfully fought against Seth Rollins in a highly intense main event.
