In the collaboration of various Sony business units, it was revealed that a fresh anime series would emerge, based on the acclaimed “Ghost of Tsushima” video game and its “Legends” multiplayer mode by Sucker Punch Productions.

2027 marks the year for the exclusive debut of the series, which will be streamed only on Crunchyroll. This information was revealed during Sony’s 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) press event held in Las Vegas.

The anime adaptation of “Ghost of Tsushima” is being collaboratively produced with Aniplex, a studio owned by Sony, known for producing anime series like “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” “Solo Leveling,” and “Sword Art Online.” This project will be led by director Takanobu Mizuno, with Gen Urobuchi from “Nitro Plus” handling the story composition. The animation duties will fall to Kamikaze Douga. As stated by Crunchyroll, they aim to bring the traditional samurai feel of “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends” to life through captivating narratives and visually stunning scenes. Sony Music has been tapped as the strategic partner for music and soundtrack in this series. Further details regarding the creative team and cast are yet to be disclosed.

The game “Ghost of Tsushima,” produced by Sucker Punch Productions (owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment), offers an open-world action-adventure experience set within the backdrop of feudal Japan. Since its release in 2020, over 13 million copies have been sold worldwide on both console and PC platforms. The game’s “Legends” mode draws inspiration from Japanese folklore and mythology for its cooperative multiplayer aspect. Last autumn, Sucker Punch announced a sequel to “Ghost of Tsushima,” titled “Ghost of Yōtei,” which is expected to launch in 2025. This new installment introduces a fresh protagonist named Atsu and a brand-new narrative.
