Since the New York Times acquired Wordle, the popular word guessing game created by Josh Wardle, its popularity has skyrocketed, with over 1,000 games being played as early as 2024. Despite the passage of time, it remains a favorite among many, and now, the New York Times has unveiled the word that confounded millions of Wordle players in 2024.

On October 15, 2024, as reported by Today, approximately 5.6 million Wordle games came to an end. The word used that day was “corer,” which can have two meanings: it could be a tool for removing fruit cores or a large cylindrical drill/tube primarily used to extract rock or soil samples from the ground or seabed.

It appears that solving the puzzle didn’t negatively impact Wordle’s statistics in any way. Last year, The New York Times introduced a numerical counterpart to Wordle called Digits. This game asks players to combine six numbers or digits to reach a specific target number. Players have the freedom to add, subtract, multiply, or divide their numbers as they see fit, provided that the correct final result is achieved.

2024 saw variations of the popular game Wordle appearing in different titles, such as a humorous adaptation from Exploding Kittens and a spin-off in Star Wars Outlaws. Interestingly, a fan-created modification introduced Wordle into Fallout: New Vegas as an alternative hacking method for terminals. It’ll be exciting to observe if Wordle will make an appearance in other games during 2025.
