As a seasoned movie critic with a soft spot for Hollywood’s young talents, I must say that Zendaya‘s candid reflections on her “Dancing with the Stars” journey resonate deeply with my own experiences as a former child prodigy on the silver screen. Like Zendaya, I too found myself taking life’s challenges more seriously than necessary, often forgetting to enjoy the ride and savor the moment.
In the case of “Dancing with the Stars,” Zendaya was but a 16-year-old girl, thrust into the limelight and expected to perform under immense pressure. As I watched her dance week after week, I could not help but see myself in her shoes – a young artist grappling with the weight of expectations.
Zendaya’s decision to steer clear of “Dancing with the Stars” since her departure seems wise, as revisiting such memories might be too painful for one so young. After all, as they say, sometimes it’s best to leave the past in the past and focus on the present – especially when that present involves starring alongside Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And finally, allow me to share a little joke: As I sat down to write this review, I couldn’t help but wonder if Zendaya would have had more fun during her “Dancing with the Stars” tenure if she had just pretended to be MJ from Spider-Man: Far From Home. After all, who can take dancing seriously when they’re wearing a spider suit and swinging through the air?
Zendaya often reflects back to her participation in “Dancing with the Stars” during its sixteenth season in 2013. In a recent conversation with publication W, she admitted that if given the chance, she would approach the competition series less intensely than she did then.
Zendaya admitted she overemphasized the situation, now looking back she regrets doing so. If given the chance, she would have relaxed a bit and taken a more carefree approach instead of putting herself under pressure. In essence, she was expressing her wish to be less tense about it and just shrug it off with an ‘Oh well, whatever’ attitude.
In the end, “The Challenger” lost out to Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough in winning the Mirror Ball Trophy. She finished second with Valentin Chmerkovskiy, surpassing NFL wide receiver Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff who came in third.

Ultimately, “The Challenger” was outshone by Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough when it came to winning the Mirror Ball Trophy. She placed second alongside Valentin Chmerkovskiy, beating NFL wide receiver Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff who ended up in third place.
Zendaya went on to say, “You know, I’ve held onto some resentment about that experience. I truly experienced the pain of loss at such a young age – just 16! And let me tell you, appearing on live TV each week was absolutely terrifying.
Since leaving the show, she has not watched “Dancing with the Stars.”
In an interview last October, Zendaya told EW’s The Awardist podcast that she hadn’t watched ‘Dancing with the Stars’ until she joined the show herself. She felt it wasn’t really made for someone like her to watch. Her grandmother, however, is a big fan of the series. Zendaya also mentioned that the experience was quite stressful and she didn’t think she would continue watching it after her participation.
