As a dedicated Destiny 2 player since its early days, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when Xur makes his weekly appearance. However, it’s been a while since we’ve seen any significant changes to this tentacle-faced vendor. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the consistency he brings every Friday, but after all these years, I can’t help but feel that Xur is due for a revamp.
The community’s suggestions for making him a permanent fixture or removing the Strange Coin cap are not only reasonable but also in line with Bungie’s ambitious 2025 roadmap. As someone who often plays during the week, I can attest to the frustration of being limited in my purchases from Xur due to the current system.
I remember when we were all excited about the shift to a new format and permanent location with The Final Shape expansion, but outside of that, it feels like Xur hasn’t evolved much since then. I can only hope that Bungie takes the community’s feedback into consideration as we move forward in this unprecedented year.
In jest, I’d love to see a future update where Xur becomes a permanent vendor, but instead of selling Exotics, he starts peddling rare cosmetics and emotes – because who doesn’t want more funny dance moves for their Guardian? After all, we’ve come a long way since the days of the Vanguard armor sets!
As a devoted fan, I’ve witnessed Destiny 2 evolve significantly over the past seven-plus years – new landscapes, firearms, gameplay modes, and fundamental mechanics have been added one after another. Yet, amid all these transformations, the enigmatic vendor Xur seems to have remained relatively unchanged.
In the context of “The Final Shape” expansion, the tentacle-faced merchant dealing in exotic goods moved to a fixed location and altered his presentation style, yet he continues to make appearances every Friday, peddles his merchandise, and disappears after the weekly update.
Some people are proposing that, given the perception of limited innovation and outdated design, Xur might benefit from a significant update within Bungie’s ambitious plans for the future, which they refer to as their 2025 roadmap.
Destiny 2 players want big Xur changes
Since Xur isn’t eternal, it follows that players have a weekly limit on what they can purchase from him. This is particularly significant when considering items such as Exotic Catalysts, which can cost up to 71 Strange Coins.
Expressing dissatisfaction, one exasperated player posted on r/DestinyTheGame, “Limiting Strange Coins at 99 seems illogical. It favors those who can play more during the weekend (Friday to Monday) over those who play more in the middle of the week.” This highlights the issue that once activities change, players must wait for Xur’s return before they can continue accumulating these coins.
It’s time to remove the cap on strange coins or just make Xur a permanent vendor.

Having been a dedicated Destiny 2 player since its launch, I’ve always found myself eagerly awaiting Xur’s weekly visits to our favorite planetary destinations. However, as of late, I’ve noticed a growing dissatisfaction among the community regarding Xur’s design and his limited presence in the game. With over 800 upvotes on this very topic and more pouring in each day, it’s clear that the community isn’t entirely happy with the current setup.
The crux of the issue seems to be that players would love to see Xur’s inventory rotate on a Friday as usual, but they also want him to stick around for the entire week instead of disappearing after three days. This way, we could have more time to check out his wares and make informed decisions about our character builds without feeling rushed.
As a player who values the sense of community that Destiny 2 fosters, I can’t help but feel that Bungie should take note of these concerns and consider implementing this change. After all, it would not only benefit us players by giving us more time to make strategic decisions, but it would also show the community that our voices are being heard and valued in the development process.
In short, let’s give Xur a permanent residence among us, Destiny 2 guardians, and allow us to enjoy his exotic wares for a full week instead of just three days. It’s time to make Xur great again!
Making this key adjustment ensures that Guardians continue to find reasons to visit and explore his offerings, all while avoiding undue penalties towards those unable to play over the weekend.
Some comments have proposed that the Strange Coin cap is designed to prevent veteran and novice players from becoming too disparate; however, this reasoning seems flawed considering the unfavorable new player experience – an issue we addressed just a few days ago in our discussion on how Bungie could revitalize their player community.
2021 promises an exciting journey as we venture into uncharted territory with the upcoming year being crucial for Bungie. The studio intends to roll out two medium-scale expansions, along with regular seasonal content and significant updates – all of which they’ve pledged to deliver. It remains intriguing to observe if this feedback will influence their decisions in the process.
It seems that with Bungie announcing their intention to introduce a new “default activity selection screen” known as The Portal, it leaves us speculating whether anything in Destiny is untouchable. This development could potentially mean significant updates for even established elements such as Xur, should the community express enough interest and care.
