As a gamer who has spent countless hours watching wildlife and adventure content, I’ve always admired the courage of people like David Humphlett, who fearlessly interact with nature’s most dangerous creatures. However, seeing him battle for his life after being bitten by an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake serves as a stark reminder that even the bravest among us are not invincible.
I remember a time when I was young and foolishly tried to catch a garden snake, only to end up with a nasty bite on my hand. The pain was unbearable, and I can only imagine what David must have felt when he was bitten by a venomous snake. It’s a humbling experience, to say the least.
I wish David a speedy recovery and hope that this close call serves as a reminder for all of us to respect nature’s boundaries. And on a lighter note, I guess you could say David is now officially one up on Steve Irwin – he survived a rattlesnake bite while Steve only managed a stingray! But let’s hope neither of them has any more close encounters with dangerous creatures anytime soon.
A well-known figure, famous for his affection towards snakes, narrowly escaped death following a bite from a venomous rattlesnake. After spending two weeks at the hospital, he is predicted to pull through.
On December 18, 2024, along the Gulf Coast of Florida, David Humphlett, well-known for his snake handling, received a bite from an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake – a notable event in his career as a snake wrangler.
Well, it seems I’m in trouble,” he anxiously stated as he started documenting the consequences of the poisonous bite. “It looks like I might soon lose the ability to walk,” he continued.
In the woods, among his companions who were stripping tree bark, Humphlett failed to notice the large, speckled serpent that lay concealed in a heap of twigs and foliage where he stood.
Without delay, the popular social media figure, boasting more than a million followers on Instagram and two million on TikTok, hastened to his vehicle. There, he declared that he had suffered from anaphylactic shock.
He explained that his entire body, from top to bottom, was sensationless and prickly. Moreover, the spot on his shin seemed as though it might burst.
I ventured a 30-minute journey to the closest fire department, from where I was air-lifted by helicopter to the hospital. Upon arrival, I was administered ten vials of antivenom; unfortunately, the inflammation on my leg persisted and kept growing larger.

David Humphlett received 88 vials of antivenom
Initially, the intense pain left him doubting if it was due to a snake bite. Instead, he assumed his ankle had been trapped by a bear.
He told his friend from the hospital bed, ‘I’m really worried that I might not make it, but I can only hope it won’t come to that.’
After getting bitten by something dangerous, I spent two weeks in the hospital and needed more than 80 doses of antivenom. On top of that, I had a blood transfusion, but unfortunately, my body reacted negatively to it.
Despite Humphlett’s predicted survival, a bite from an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake carries the risk of being fatal. If left unattended, as per Healthline, such a bite may cause organ failure and potentially lead to death within 2 to 3 days.
Approximately two months prior to Humphlett’s rattlesnake bite incident, South African YouTube personality and wildlife conservationist Graham ‘Dingo’ Dinkelman passed away due to issues stemming from a cobra bite. This individual was frequently likened to Steve Irwin, who tragically died in 2006 as a result of a stingray sting.
