As a film enthusiast with over three decades of watching Hollywood dramas unfold, I must say that the recent turn of events surrounding “It Ends With Us” is nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Having witnessed countless power struggles and scandals in Tinseltown, I’ve learned to take each situation with a grain of salt and trust those who have shown unwavering courage in standing up for what’s right.
Jenny Slate is supporting her “It Ends With Us” co-star, Blake Lively, following her accusations against the movie’s director and main actor, Justin Baldoni, of sexual misconduct and an alleged effort to tarnish her reputation.
In a statement to Today, I expressed my backing as Blake Lively tackles allegations about individuals accused of damaging her reputation. As her colleague and friend, I admire her courage and leadership. Blake is not only a strong role model but also a faithful companion, providing emotional support for me and countless others who are fortunate enough to know and appreciate her.
She stated that “the information disclosed regarding the assault on Blake is incredibly grim, unsettling, and entirely menacing. I applaud my friend, I appreciate her courage, and I support her unwaveringly.
In “It Ends With Us,” the character Slate portrays Allysa, who is the sister of Ryle Kincaid, played by Baldoni, and the sister-in-law of Lily Bloom, acted by Blake Lively. When Lily confesses to Allysa that Ryle has been mistreating her, Allysa stands by her side in helping her escape from him.
Representatives for Slate did not immediately respond to EbMaster‘s request for further comment.
On December 20th, Lively initially accused Baldoni of sexual harassment in a filed complaint. She asserted that his actions inflicted “severe emotional distress” not only on her but also on her family. Furthermore, she claimed that he endeavored to tarnish her reputation through a smear campaign. However, Bryan Freedman, who is Baldoni’s legal representative and Wayfarer Studios, deemed the complaint as disgraceful and packed with “completely false allegations.
The complaint claims a meeting took place in January to discuss Lively’s concerns upon her return to the “It Ends With Us” set following actor and writer strikes. During this gathering, attended by Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds, Lively accused Baldoni of discussing her weight with her trainer, pressuring her to reveal her religious beliefs, and engaging in inappropriate discussions about his personal life. Furthermore, she alleged that he had attempted to include additional sex scenes beyond what was scripted, an action reportedly approved by the film’s distributor, Sony Pictures, according to the complaint.
Lively’s submission encompasses correspondence such as messages and emails exchanged between Baldoni and his PR team, outlining their counterattack online strategy following whispers of a backstage argument between them. The lawsuit claims that “Mr. Baldoni and his Wayfarer companions initiated an intricate press and digital campaign in response to Ms. Lively asserting her legally-defended right to voice concerns about their alleged misbehavior on set, with an additional aim of intimidating her and anyone else who might disclose the truth about what truly transpired.
Following Lively’s filing, various notable figures have voiced their support for her. Among them are Brandon Sklenar, a co-star from “It Ends With Us,” and author Colleen Hoover. In a heartfelt post, Hoover expressed, “From the day we met, you have been honest, kind, supportive, and patient.” She added, “Thank you for being the remarkable person that you are. Stay as you are – never change, never falter.” Additionally, SAG-AFTRA and Sony have shown their backing towards Lively.
On Monday, Amber Heard pointed out that Baldoni retained the same crisis management PR team as her former spouse Johnny Depp during their high-profile defamation trial in 2022. She made this observation in a statement to NBC News, stating, “Social media is a clear manifestation of the old adage ‘A lie can circle the globe while the truth is still putting on its shoes.’ I witnessed this occurrence firsthand and at close range. It’s as alarming as it is damaging.
In a joint statement on social media, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel (who starred together in “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”) expressed their support. They stated that during the filming of “It Ends with Us,” they witnessed Blunt standing up for a safe working environment for herself and her colleagues. The actresses were appalled to discover evidence of a calculated and retaliatory attempt to discredit her when she spoke out. What’s most distressing, they said, is the use of domestic violence survivors’ stories to silence someone advocating for safety. They found the blatant hypocrisy to be shocking.
