As a seasoned Pokémon TCG Pocket player with years of battles under my belt, I must say that the Druddigon card has been a pleasant surprise and a game-changer for me. I remember the days when Dragon and Metal types were often overlooked, but not anymore!
In the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), a Druddigon card from the Mythical Island set is gaining recognition for being among the top cards added to the game. This is largely due to its exceptional Ability and an underestimated attack, making it a standout choice in many player’s decks.
It’s widely recognized that the Dragon and Metal types have been somewhat overlooked in the Pokémon TCG Pocket game since its debut, given the predominant emphasis on Electric, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Normal, Psychic, and Water types. These latter types, after all, are closely linked to many of the game’s most celebrated Pokémon.
On Mythical Island, Druddigon was the sole fresh Dragon introduced, yet often overshadowed by others such as Celebi. It’s now worth a second look at Druddigon, as Reddit users on PTCGP are listing numerous arguments for why you should include this monster in your deck.
That’s the best card they added in terms of deck building and new strategies.

Druddigon is far stronger than Pokemon Pocket fans realized
One of Druddigon’s standout traits is its tough, scaly hide, which inflicts 20 points of damage on an attacking Pokémon. Applying a Potion immediately following an attack provides an opportunity for a retaliatory strike at no additional cost.
The latest character is comparable to Kangaskhan, but unlike him, he doesn’t need energy. In the early stages, he serves as a budget wall, costing just one prize card, and offers some chip damage. He’s incredibly adaptable and beneficial.
User A commented, “I completely concur; the layout of this card is impressive, it might not be too powerful on its own, but it provides a multitude of possibilities and adds variety to the gameplay.” Meanwhile, User B said, “A card that slows down opponents while dealing damage passively is truly effective.
With its tough hide and the 90 points of damage from Dragon Claw, Druddigon can quickly eliminate numerous threats during a single turn, particularly when accompanied by Giovanni. If the opponent can’t defeat it in one strike (especially since Druddigon has no weaknesses), then the additional 20 damage per hit will accumulate significantly, especially against Basic Pokémon.
With a two-Energy retreat cost for Druddigon, you now have the advantage of using the Leaf Supporter card from Mythical Island, which allows you to bring it back to the bench without any Energy cost.
It’s beneficial for Druddigon that it isn’t an extinct card, because when you have two of them, they can function like a barrier while you strategize to deploy another Pokemon. However, the challenge lies in providing Energy, as it requires both Fire and Water Energy to use Dragon Claw, which restricts its tactical possibilities slightly.
As a dedicated Pokemon fan, I’ve noticed that the current metagame leans heavily towards Mew ex and Vaporeon, with players aiming for swift knockouts. It’s time for a formidable contender to step in and challenge these dominant forces, perhaps a spiky dragon beast is just what we need to bring balance back into the competitive scene!
