As a follower reflecting upon Victoria Preminger‘s remarkable life, I am struck by the sheer breadth of her accomplishments and the grace with which she navigated the complex worlds of literature, law, and entertainment. Born into the illustrious Preminger family, Victoria leveraged her unique heritage to carve out a niche for herself in the competitive realms of audiobook production and children’s literature.

On February 7th, Victoria Preminger, the daughter of renowned filmmaker Otto Preminger, passed away in Studio City, California, after suffering from injuries sustained in a fall at her residence. She was 63 years old.

Her mother, Hope Bryce Preminger, was a renowned actress, while her uncle, Ingo Preminger, was a prominent film producer. Ingo, also known for being a literary agent, represented notable figures like Dalton Trumbo and Ring Lardner during their time of being blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

Hailing from New York City in 1960, Warhol attended the Lycée Français de New York and eventually graduated with honors from Smith College. During her time as an undergraduate, she made appearances in several television soap operas and also starred in the 1988 film “Spike of Bensonhurst,” which was helmed by Paul Morrissey.

Four years after graduating from Pepperdine University School of Law, she spent the next six years working in Beverly Hills, California for Dove Audio, one of the top audio book companies in the U.S. During this time, she worked on various projects, including producing, editing, and guiding renowned personalities such as Glenda Jackson, Joanne Woodward, Ben Kingsley, Audrey Hepburn, and even Carl Reiner in their narrations of timeless novels like “Madame Bovary,” “Little Women,” “Tarzan,” and “The Enchanted Tales.” Her collaboration with Hepburn won the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word, while her work with Reiner on Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper” was nominated for the Best Spoken Word Album for Children Grammy Award.

Apart from working on audio book productions, Preminger also wrote six children’s books for Dove Books’ printing department. Her literary pieces include “Barkley Unleashed: A Pirate’s Story” and “The Adventures of Woodrow the Woodchuck.

Eventually, Preminger departed from Dove Audio and shifted to Rysher/Spelling Entertainment. There, leveraging her legal expertise, she managed domestic television rights. Notably, she was behind the 2009 film “The Northern Kingdom” and the TV series “Crowned in a Far Country.

After spending time at Rysher/Spelling Entertainment, Preminger took on a role as Vice President for Business and Legal Matters at NBC Universal.

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve always been intrigued by the multifaceted life of Elaine Preminger. While many know her for her significant contributions to cinema, not everyone is aware that she was also an accomplished equestrian. Throughout much of her life, she immersed herself in the world of horses, earning numerous accolades for her skillful riding in horse shows and jumping events within the Hunter Division. Today, her legacy continues with her brother Dr. Mark Preminger and her half-brother Erik Lee Preminger, the son of the legendary actress Gypsy Rose Lee.
